I love the show but I'm worried about this season. I read the description for tonight's show (see below) and it doesn't look good. I think it's a huge mistake for them to add a new cast member, it's always a sign of impending doom.

Please, someone convince me otherwise!

RENA SOFER ('ED') JOINS THE CAST OF 'JUST SHOOT ME' -- When Jack (George Segal) hires brash, opinionated Brooklyn-ite Vicki Costa (new cast member Rena Sofer, "Ed"), a woman he met on the street, to make sweeping changes at Blush, the staff get her to quit by telling her Jack only wants her around so he can seduce her. But when they learn it's not true, Maya (Laura San Giacomo) tries to convince the former hair salon employee to come back. Meanwhile, Finch (David Spade) preys on a distraught female co-worker (guest star Amy Farrington) in the hopes she'll take comfort in his arms.

Ok, I watched the show it wasn't too bad. I don't like the new woman too much (I like her haircut though). She seems to be forcing a Brooklyn accent that sounds fake and even though they're supposed to be in NYC anyway, she is the only one with any kind of accent. It's kind of insulting if you're from NY.
There were some really good one-liners tonight.

I sacrificed "JSM" to listen to the Bucks preseason opener (which they lost...grrrr), but I taped it. I haven't wacthed it yet though cuz I have so many tapes, I lose track of which one's which. I really need to label some of them... But I hope it's good....I've been worried about the show since it moved to Tuesday cuz in the Nielsen Ratings the past couple weeks, it can't get anything higher then, like, a 60. Hope it gets higher ratings.... :)

Thanks for posting, I thought I'd have to have this discussion by myself. Watch and let me know what you thought! I hope it starts getting better ratings too. It really is a funny show given the chance.

Rena Sofer is good actress, but there is no reason for her to do that accent. It seems unnatural, a bit forced.

I thought there was some decent stuff, but not enough to make me think the show will survive.

They brought out every character's extreme, maybe to make a point, I don't know.

Elliot is neurotic, unsure of his work, yet likes to think he's brilliant.

Nina is a sexpot who has done everyone and everything, that she has to consider whether her next sexual remark applies.

Maya is just too darn mad that anyone didnt work their butt off in college- though she works for her dad (re-occuring theme)

Finch acts exactly the same, but he is the anchor, and the producers know it.

And Jack is the same too- self absorbed, excited, dissapointed, forgiving and proud.

I just feel it's the last year, adding new characters at this point never holds for more than a year.

I feel the same way; the ratings have plunged dramatically and I think that will be the straw that breaks the camel's back for "Just Shoot Me." As much as I like the show, I can't help but think that the show will not survive for another season. And I agree -- adding new characters now is absolutely pointless.

The real reason to why the ratings are so low, is because it's up against not only JAG, but also 8 Simple Rules. Just Shoot Me was #75 in the ratings last night. However, In-Laws which is NOT against 8SR, and instead A2J ranked in at #70. That's not good. That means that everyone that watches JSM also watches In-Laws, and then others come in to watch In-Laws also. Can anyone say Cancellation?

It's really NBC's fault. NBC is weak during 8/830 timeslots. NBC gets better at 9/930 with Frasier and Hidden Hills...but JSM really should be on Thursdays, and Scrubs should be back on Tuesdays. This is a much stronger season that last season, and it doesn't deserve this terrible treatment. Such shows as Veronica's Closet, Golden Girls, and What About Joan got strong ratings in their first seasons, and then were moved to die. I expect the same with JSM.
