View Full Version : Ahhhh!!!!!
Julie the GI girl 10-08-2002, 05:45 PM ok......i officially hate my tv. maybe not the tv itself though. for the past two days....during the "twice as nice" gilligan hour on tv land.....at almost the end of the second episode.....the picture scrambles and then it goes black. but of course it comes back on RIGHT AFTER THE SHOW IS OVER!!!!! if it had just been yesterday i'd still be upset....but it's been the same thing two days in a row. i'm trying to tape every episode...and this is just slowing me down. grrrrr! is it just my stupid cable somehow....or are other people having this problem too?
JWood201 10-08-2002, 06:41 PM Ah! It did it to me today right in the middle of the climactic pirate dream sequence fight! I didn't see the second episode yesterday so I wouldn't know if it did it then...but I'm guessing it would have for me too.
I think it's TV Land...it has issues.
Julie the GI girl 10-09-2002, 03:50 PM YES! it was right in the middle of the fight! ok, now i hate my cable company a little less. now i just hate tv land more. i guess i shouldn't be too mean to them though....they do actually play the episodes....even if they are edited and sometimes skipped.
their slogan should be:
shows you know
shows you like
shows you know you like
shows you know you'd like to see un-cut and in order!
i thought it might have been my cable though....because there were a few other channels that were messed up at the same time too. some were all static, and some were black. and then during spongebob (yes i watch spongebob, no i'm not ashamed to admit it!) on nick, it did the same thing that happened to gilligan.....got all scrambled and turned black. so maybe it has something to do with nickelodeon networks or whatever. i want to scream though. if it does it today i'm going to throw stuff.
Julie the GI girl 10-09-2002, 05:15 PM AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT DID IT AGAIN!!!!!!!
*beats head off of desk*
*throws books at the tv*
*goes to consider typing a complaint to tv land*
sniff, sniff......it was one of exactly 2 episodes that i have yet to see because tv land skipped over those 2 the last time. 2 lousy episodes and one of them gets messed up. i'm gonna cry or something.
JWood201 10-09-2002, 05:57 PM ((ooh, I double-posted by accident. lol. I did. See following post...))
JWood201 10-09-2002, 05:58 PM It did it again. I was watching "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" on Comedy Central (I've seen the Tongo ep too many times) at that time and it started turning all fuzzy and "snowing" right at the same time that GI scrambled and went off. Some of my other stations were weird too.
It's definitely not your cable company, I don't think, if it's happening to me too...
I don't really think it's TV Land's fault...maybe not entirely anyways.
Truth 10-09-2002, 06:00 PM That reminds me... Last night at about 1am or so on the TV here... on the CBS affilate they were showing an infomercial and the picture started scrambling....
Julie the GI girl 10-10-2002, 03:57 PM hey, i just thought of something. courtney, you live in PA too, right? you don't by any chance have charter cable do you? cause they cover a pretty large area....and i thought maybe if you were having the same troubles too....maybe it is the cable.
JWood201 10-10-2002, 08:16 PM I'm over near Philly though... I have Comcast cable. They're pretty big too...
My dad, whose not the most PC man on the face of the earth, was home when it happened today and I explained it to him and he goes "Yeah, spies are probably jamming the signal to communicate over the satellite...using Gilligan as a means to spread their dastardly plans." I was like "Riiiight" and ignored him. LOL.
Just felt the need to share. **shrug**
Julie the GI girl 10-11-2002, 05:14 PM LOL!!!! that sounds just like something MY dad would say. i complained to him about it, and he just got all sarcastically over-dramatical like "oh no! what are you going to do? this is such a tragedy!" :p to him! i wouldn't mind as much if i wasn't trying to tape them all.
i was just taking a wild guess with the cable thing....i guess it wasn't the company then. weird. i wonder what would cause something like that? i bet the castaways were yet again trying to get rescued by sending out signals over the tv waves....but they couldn't pedal fast enough and all they suceeded in doing was blanking out the picture. maybe a tv cable washed ashore this time, and the professor figured out how to tap into cable all around the world. yeah....i bet that's it.
anywayz......it didn't happen today or yesterday.....so happy happy joy joy to that!
JWood201 10-11-2002, 09:33 PM Hmm...it happened yesterday for me. **shrug**
But today was fine...so all is now well with the world. :D
Jack1000 10-17-2002, 10:58 PM Guys,
I think I know what your cable problem is! It is called "Sunspot Activity." During the spring season and early fall, at about the same time each day, the sun's rays pass directly over the cable (any cable) satellite causing a momentary loss of picture and/or sound or scrambled picture for about 5-10 minutes or so. After this signal loss, the picture returns to normal. This annoyance lasts for about a week at the same time each day and it's the result of "the sun blocking the signal." It will only happen on some channels, and it is beyond the control of the cable system.
If you have a decent cable service, they should remind you of this semi-annual situation on your bill or flash a message on your screen telling you about the sun spot signal blockage. This happens regardless of what cable company you have, and whether or not you have digital or analog cable. It's the friggin weather! Hope this helps!
Jack
JWood201 10-17-2002, 11:04 PM Oh, wow, I've never heard of that before! Thanks!
Julie the GI girl 10-18-2002, 03:24 PM that's awesome! even though it screws up the cable and i hate it.....it's still awesome!!! i guess i did learn something new today after all.
*takes information and crams it into brain*
my brain just got a new wrinkle!
