"Law & Order" Casts Ryan Eggold as [Spoiler]’s Brother, Mariska Hargitay and Elizabeth Marvel to Guest-Star

For his first TV appearance since "New Amsterdam" wrapped its five-season run, Ryan Eggold is set to guest-star on another NBC drama — "Law & Order".

He will guest-star in a Season 24 episode as Matt Riley, the brother of Det. Vince Riley (Reid Scott).



"Law & Order: SVU" front woman Mariska Hargitay and franchise vet Elizabeth Marvel are also lined up to appear on the original series’ revival this fall.

Prior to Eggold’s appearance, Hargitay will cross over Captain Olivia Benson in an October episode, with Marvel reprising her SVU role of Defense Attorney Rita Calhoun during the same hour.

"Law & Order" is bringing back Ryan Eggold’s Matt Riley, the troubled brother of Detective Vincent Riley (Reid Scott). When viewers last saw Matt in season 24’s “Big Brother,” he was arrested (by his brother) after refusing to testify during a murder trial.

“He’s recently returned from his vacation in state prison,” showrunner Rick Eid jokes of what brings Matt back.



“He reunites with his brother, and, yeah, he’s been back in New York for a little bit. They reconnect. And I think this character, this Matt Riley character, he’s one of those guys who can’t avoid being adjacent to bad things. He’s just one of those guys. [It’s] an interesting follow-up to last year[‘s episode], very emotional.”

The new season kicks off Thursday, September 25 at 8/7c.
