The best sitcoms are ones that don't need to tell their audience when to laugh. The funniest shows of the last 25 years didn't need laugh tracks.

Every one of the shows isted was on the air with in 30 years and not one of the shows I have seen.

The purpose of a laugh track was never to "tell their audience when to laugh."
The laugh track was a holdover from radio. Since it was the 'theater of the mind', it was for the listener to imagine being among an actual audience, as in a movie theater or a vaudeville show.
When TV came along, it just migrated to sitcoms.
The laugh track nowadays is simply replaced with the actor's reactions to whatever the gag is.
