As Fernando Valenzuela was becoming a sensation, the season came to a halt (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nC7xNtaRuY), and every team in 1st place at that point automatically made the playoffs, and they played against the second half winners. And that brought controversy when the Reds (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981_Cincinnati_Reds_season) had the best record in the league and didn't make the playoffs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981_National_League_Division_Series). The Yankees (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981_New_York_Yankees_season) and Dodgers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981_Los_Angeles_Dodgers_season) would again face in the World Series (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981_World_Series) after Rick Monday's home run against the Expos (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981_Montreal_Expos_season) and they would finally beat them in 6 games (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981_National_League_Championship_Series).

It's playoff time! While I'll probably talk about some playoff performances at some point, I thought I'd talk about some MLB history. The 1981 strike was the first midseason strike in MLB history. This affected the seasonal trajectory of many teams, including the Cincinnati Reds, who had the leagues best record but missed out on the playoffs. I hope you enjoy the video!

The history of Major League Baseball is fascinating. It gets especially fun when you delve into the historically weird times in the game.

1981 could be tough to beat for strangest season in MLB history. A strike in the middle season results in a year of two halves. It results in double the amount of playoff teams, strange rulings to determine those teams, and some of their best teams not even making the playoffs as a result.

It's a wacky story, which is perfect for me as I made a (hopefully) delight of a baseball documentary.
