Long before Grey's Anatomy, the iconic Sleepless in Seattle movie starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan was released in theaters this year. And after 9 seasons on Cheers, the Frasier spin-off, starring Kelsey Grammer moving to Seattle to reconnect with his newly created brother and dead father , premiered on NBC's Must See Thursdays. Frasier instantly became a hit airing after Seinfeld (and unlike most of Seinfeld's leadouts was able to successfully anchor a night after moving away). David Hyde Pierce who excelled as Niles was also in Sleepless in Seattle (the one flaw about that movie, he needed a much bigger role there).

Also...The Seattle Sound of Grunge was at its peak.

In 1994, The Seattle Sound started to wane not only because of Kurt Cobain's death...but most grunge rock became mainstream.

But were the Mariners and Supersonics all that in '93? I know the Seahawks were still trying to find an identity.
