Scott Valentine who played Nick was eight years older than Justine Bateman who played Mallory. I wonder why they didn't hire a younger actor to play Nick.

I think that Scott Valentine was 25 but his character, Nick was younger. When he met the family, Steven asked him about school so we can suppose that he was way younger than 25 years old. Personally i'm glad that Mallory dated Nick because Skippy was dumb and ugly. Nick was very sweet with Mallory.

Yeah that's right, the character of Nick was close to the same age as Mallory. In the episode where Nick's dog dies, which I believe was in the 88, or 89 season Nick revealed that he was 22 years old. It is kind of strange though that they hired someone so much older to play her boyfriend. All of the boyfriends she had on the show always seemed to be much older, and I never understood that either.

I think that's because teenage boys look usually 15 when they are 18.
