View Full Version : What is the point in giving someone gift cards?
TheLittleFaerie 08-07-2024, 05:36 AM Instead of giving someone a $50 Wal Mart gift card, why not just give the person $50? That way they can spend it as they wish, It's my bday and I got a $20 Amazon gift card, which I appreciate but I'd much rather just had the 20 bucks lol

You give them a gift card from their favorite store or restaurant . Or Amazon's good if they use Amazon. Safer to send than cash f you mail it.
Some people feel that giving cash would insult the person, like they are poor and it's charity , even if it's a birthday gift. That is why I do give gift cards a lot as gifts instead of cash. And I avoid giving grocery store gift cards too, don't want to make someone feel I think they are poor and need help buying groceries.
Unless they really are poor and could really use cash or groceries. But if not a gift card from their favorite store ( buy a present you like and it will be from me) restaurant gift card, (have dinner on me, I'll be there in spirit dining with you) or if they like movies, AMC theater gift cards are a good idea( see a movie on me). ;)
Caroline13 08-07-2024, 02:51 PM I never got one nor gave one, but I've given and gotten cash...which I prefer.
If anyone has any gift cards they don’t want they can send them to me (If you have any cash you don’t want you can send it to TheLittleFaerie)

Chocolate Moose 08-08-2024, 02:50 PM You can certainly dress cash up but some stores' gift cards are gorgeous and others give you free stuff when you buy a card from them. Otherwise, right, no point.
Janice Johnson 08-10-2024, 06:43 AM The person receiving the gift might be a drug or a gambling addict, so the person giving the gift would give a gift card to prevent the person getting the gift from wasting it on drugs or on gambling games. A prime example isa Wealthy man giving his Granddaughter $2,000 as a gift. Granddaughter was a drug addict and used that $2,000 on drugs and died of an overdose.:(

Believe me, addicts will find ways to get cash for gift cards.
Some stores have machines where you can get cash back for inserting gift cards. They do take a small cut, you might get back $23.25 from a $25 card.
JamesG 10-11-2024, 08:36 AM I recently passed by a string of those Pawn/Jewelry shops and they all had signs saying gift cards as one of the items that they accept.
So, there are multiple ways out there to get cash for gift cards.
