I can be wrong (And I'm probably wrong) but ....


Coffins are usually six-sided boxes, with a top and and bottom
(I don't know why??)

Caskets are usually four-sided boxes, with a top and bottom

Old time comedians would have a different take, if you were choosing what word to use for a piece of comedy, casket is a funnier word than coffin.
