Has anyone ever read it? If you have what did you think of it because I'm going to start reading it soon?

Considering how long ago that was, and that I still remember being enthralled with the story, I'd say it is a great read. But don't get your expectatons up. ;)

I read it my Sophomore year of high school. I don't really remember it so I couldn't tell you anything helpful.

i read it last year in english. the plot was cool, it was. but, just, boring story, boring. i dunno, i guess if you read oliver twist, and liked it, then you'll like it. i couldn't finish the first page of oliver twist. but this was book...too out of date. ya know?

ive tried to read oliver twist like 10 times..... that first page is what throws me off.. its so confusing.....

I didn't like it. It seemed to unreal...I dunno. Plus, we zoomed through it...we read about 60 pages a nite...so we could finish in about a week. So I didn't really read it, I skimmed it...but I dunno

we just read it. one word sums it up... YAWN!!!!

I remeber seeing a TV adaptation when I was about 8 years old and I thought the plot was brilliant and it is a very interesting story.
I haven't read the book before, I don't really like any of the Dicken's books I started reading even though he was born exactly 10 minutes from where I live. His birthplace house is open to the public.

I haven't read the whole thing, but last year there was an exerpt or whatever in out Lit. book...it was all right...a little odd tho.

Charles Dickens was one of the most popular writers of all time, creating some of the best-known characters in English literature. In the book "Great Expectations", the protagonist and narrator, Pip begins the story as a young orphan boy being grown up by his sister. I like this book, because Charles Dickens takes you right inside the Pip's mind and you live through the events and discoveries of his life with him. Pip is passionate, romantic and somewhat unrealistic at heart. That makes the novel interesting. Of course, you cannot forget the great love story (Pip and Estella). The other characters Magwitch, Miss Havisham, Joe Gargery, Miss Joe, Estella, Mr Jaggers and Mr Wemmick are all unique and special in their way and they add to the novel's richness. Another thing I really liked was how all of the characters are interrelated to each other in ways that you may not discover until you get to the end of the novel. This novel will make you sometimes laugh and sometimes make you feel sad, but it is always entertaining. Latif Dose simplifies the texts. The language is very clear. There are not old English words and this gives the reader much pleasure while reading the novel. I think most young people would like this novel because it's not as hard to read as an other classic books. I recommend Great Expectations to anyone who wants to read a good, classic book because Great Expectations has a little bit of everything in it, mystery, romance and suspense. You cannot easily find all of these properties in other novels, which makes "Great Expectations" a special and a classic one.
. That makes this novel very different. It is probably one of the top ten English novels of the 19th century. Some of the passages are beautiful. I cannot forget Pip's response to Estella when she says "You will get me out of thoughts in a week."

I just finished reading that book a week ago. I actully liked that book somewhat.

And I've never read Great Expectations.

im in my freshman year and we have to read it. 2nd day at school, our teacher throws this book at us and says u got 2 months to read it and then u got a test.well i got like 2 weeks left and im just half way thru it. its really stupid, but im actually starting to "sorta" get into it, but its really boring.

That's an excerpt from the review that I posted. To each his or her own and all, but what's so dang boring or difficult about "Great Expectations"? I don't get what some of you are complainig about.

It's long and I hated it. It's supposedly "realistic" is what my English teacher last year said. Come on! Who meets a kid once, and gives him his life's inheritance...and lives in poverty for it?? I just dont get it. And then, you have to add that whole little love scene in there, with Pip and the girl. But of course, it doesnt work out in the original ending. I thought it was extremely stupid.

I thought it was extremely stupid. Well, the fact that it's long is no excuse. But I do see your point about Pip being unrealistically odd with his obsession with what's her face. Personally, I would have been tempted to play pratical jokes on her after being put through so much rejection. Dog doodoo placed inconspicuously on her favorite chair, and stuff like that would have served her right.
