"Wheel", "Jeopardy!" Renewed Through 2009-10 Season

"Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!", still the two dominant shows in syndicated television, have been renewed through the 2009-10 season by several major station groups.

The announcement was made by Roger King, CEO of CBS Enterprises and the show's distributor, King World Television; and Steve Mosko, president of Sony Pictures Television.

Wheel, now in its 22nd syndicated season, has been number one in the syndicated Nielsens since the 1984-85 season as the biggest success story in the history of non-network television. The series began as a five-a-week daytime series on NBC in January 1975 and ran concurrently on the network with the syndicated edition from 1983-93.

"Jeopardy!", with roots dating back 40 years when Art Fleming hosted the original version, is riding the crest of a ratings groundswell, thanks to series phenomenon Ken Jennings.

Since Jennings' long run of 50 games began in early June, Jeopardy! has eclipsed "Wheel" five times as the number one syndicated show and three times during the summer was seen by more viewers than any program on network prime time television.

Key renewals include most of the ABC owned-and-operated stations, along with stations from the Viacom Stations Group, Hearst-Argyle, Belo, Cox Broadcasting, LIN and Post-Newsweek.
