Will you tune in?
The commercials showing on Buzzr channel all week are making me terrified of tuning in to see the return of these 2 beloved shows.
Just from the 30 second commercials, the audience looks all hyper and spastic jumping around like escapees from an insane asylum, and the hosts look like they're trying too hard to show how much FUN they're having. It all looks like too much manufactured excitement to get people to tune in whereas the old game shows didn't do that because they relied on the games themselves to reel viewers in. I don't want to see the audience jumping out of their seats like crazed monkeys. I watch these shows for the games.
Not to mention the ugly dark spaceship like sets that remind me of the old Millionaire show circa 2000 with all the flashing lights. It all just looks like too much sensory overload to be enjoyable.
I'll take a peek at both, but I don't think i'll be able to stick around for each entire episode. I'll probably grab my remote quickly and flee back to Buzzr channel to watch the classic Card Sharks and PYL without all the spastic jumping around and screaming.
As for the new Match Game, I never tuned into that one, and never will because of Alec Baldwin. (I can't find a vomit emoji to insert here)
EDIT: I watched 3 minutes and flipped back to the classic version over on Buzzr. I couldn't even see the what the prizes were on the new board because it looked smaller than the old version. Yuck. Not for me. And that host...."Are you too stressed to press?" ugh, she annoyed me. I prefer the old version. Won't return to that again.

I saw a preview of the debut episode of Press Your Luck and from what I saw of the preview on Youtube I don't know how ABC got the okay to do the revival of Press Your Luck. For one thing it seems that the Big Board in this version seems to be taken from a Press Your Luck video game and makes it seem out of place and they should've made the board like the original version of Press Your Luck. Next I found it shocking that Press Your Luck is hosted by Elizabeth Banks and I don't know why ABC chose a female host for Press Your Luck and although Elizabeth Banks is a nice actress and I like two female game show hosts Meredith Veira and Brooke Burns ABC should've gotten Chris Harrison or even Todd Newton to host Press Your Luck's revival rather than Elizabeth Banks could've been better. And another thing is why isn't the contestants wearing name tags like the original Press Your Luck players used to? I find it shocking that the contestants names are on the podium rather than name tags. Seems like a costly thing to do on ABC's part. About the only good thing is that they use hand drawn Whammies in this version that makes it cute. So I think this new Press Your Luck might be worthy of watching but I think it will fail and if he was still alive Peter Tomarken would be shocked at this version. So while I think ABC has high hopes for this new revival of PYL I think it will be cancelled after three episodes along with the Card Sharks revival. Stick with GSN's Whammy The All New Press Your Luck instead for some Press Your Luck fun

I completely agree that Peter Tomarken would be mortified at this updated version. I could only take a few minutes last night of it before changing back to the original version that was playing at the same time on Buzzr channel.
The way I see it, is if you want to bring back an old game show from the past, you shouldn't revamp it too much away from the original format. The board was not pleasing to look at and I agree it looked like video graphics on the screen over the regular big board like the 80's version. And it was hard for me to see what the prizes were in the boxes.
I've seen The All New Whammy on You Tube and hated what they did to the board in that version. My favorite will always be the original 80's version.
It'll be interesting to see what the ratings will be for both shows tonight. Since it's summer schedule, I think expectations are lower so it may just run through the whole season.
I just pray they don't try and bring back Password. I don't even want to think about how they'd ruin that beloved game.

I just pray they don't try and bring back Password. I don't even want to think about how they'd ruin that beloved game. :eek:I liked Million Dollar Password that was hosted by Regis Philbin for two seasons on CBS, definitely preferred it to his more popular Who Wants to be a Millionaire? However ABC I don't have much (if any) confidence in, they ruined the Pyramid remake and made it totally trashy.

On this Press Your Luck revival they have a bonus round where the winning contestant can win up to a million dollars and I thought that was amazing

Joel McHale on how ABC's Card Sharks revival is different: "We still have two beautiful assistants — but one is a beautiful male assistant" (https://www.tvinsider.com/782847/card-sharks-abc-revival-joel-mchale/)
"When I watched the older episodes, I noticed it was only gameplay," says McHale, whose Card Sharks revival premieres Wednesday. "Now, there's more joking. The audience is on camera screaming and yelling while waiting for the cards to turn, much like the final table of Texas Hold 'Em tournaments in Las Vegas."

Ratings for both PYL and Card Sharks got a 0.9 rating and under 5 million viewers for each show yet it's being called a solid premiere. I admit I haven't tuned into modern networks in years so I don't know what current ratings expectations are, but damn if those low numbers are now considered "solid", TV is in trouble.
I remember the days when shows would get double digit ratings. Now it can't even reach 1 point and studios are thrilled. Wow.

Really? For some reason I find this funny.
