So I had no intention of watching this weekend's Catchy Comedy binge of Mayberry RFD. Somehow after watching the events of one the places I lived, Butler PA. I ended up tuning in on the binge.

There was something oddly calming and comforting about this show. Certainly not a laugh out loud comedy. Just a folksy everyone gets along program. Even when things didn't go right they sorted out in a way that was pretty much opposite of how many disagreements are dealt with today.

Perhaps that's partly why it was a popular show when it first aired. That era had similar vibes as this one does. Often frustrating, scary, and sad. People trying to make sense of situations that have no way of making sense.

I didn't see any of the marathon. I watched a selection of the late-season Andy Griffiths a while back. I didn't find them funny, but many held my interest because they were about interesting questions, such as the ethics dilemma that faced Andy in umpiring a ball game. Not "in your face," but they were about something.

Yes Mayberry RFD basically followed the same theme as the color Andy Griffith Show episodes was. Family Affair and later episodes of My Three Sons had a similar feel.
