David Allen Loggins, Grammy nominated Hall of Fame singer/songwriter best known for “Please Come To Boston,” died on July 10th, 2024, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN. He was 76 years old.

Loggins, born in Shady Valley, TN, started life as a small town boy in Bristol, TN, and later moved to Nashville to become one of our most prolific songwriters. Loggins crafted five decades worth of hit songs for a long list of artists, such as Three Dog Night, Joan Baez Don Williams, Johnny Cash, Toby Keith, Wynonna Judd, Alabama, Lee Greenwood, Smokey Robinson, Ray Charles, Reba McEntire, Tanya Tucker, Restless Heart, Kenny Rogers, and Willie Nelson, to name a few. Dave has had an amazingly successful career in music.

Loggins holds the record for being the only unsigned artist to ever win a CMA award for his performance with Anne Murray in 1986 for their duet, “Nobody Loves Me Like You Do.” Dave also penned the song “Augusta,” which is the longest running sports theme in history, for the Augusta Masters Golf Tournament.

He is survived by his three sons, Quinn Loggins, Kyle Loggins, and Dylan Loggins, as well as his grandson, Braxton Loggins.

Per Dave’s request, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN.

Wasn't Dave Loggins part of Loggins And Messina in the 70's? That group that sang Your Mama Don't Dance and I believe Dave Loggins sang Nobody Loves Me Like You Do with Anne Murray and Whitney Houston and Jermaine Jackson covered that song on Whitney Houston's debut album

Incidentally, from the L.A. Times, "(Dave) Loggins, a Tennessee native, was a second cousin of rocker Kenny Loggins."

Kenny Loggins later explained that the Loggins family was originally from Chicago and two branches of the family separated from there. One made its way to the Seattle area and the other migrated to Tennessee. For the record, Kenny was born in Everett, Washington, just outside Seattle.

Dave Loggins' best-known out song apart from "Please Come To Boston" may very well be "Pieces of April," which Three Dog Night recorded in 1973. Loggins recorded and released his own version in 1979.
