There was a special segment about Amy Billig and her Mother on the AMERICA'S MOST WANTED episode which aired this past weekend, and I really began thinking about Amy Billig, as well as the segment which was written for UNSOLVED MYSTERIES about Amy's disappearance.

What really happened to Amy? What do you think happened to her?

I really don't know what may have happened to her, but I am sad about her disappearance in any event. It is so tragic that she was abducted, and I feel so much compassion for her Mother. Her Mother has stridently been following leads to try and find Amy, but she has not been found.


Is it possible that Amy could still be alive? How is that possible after so many years of absence?



Ostensibly, it is believed that Amy was abducted by members of the "Outlaws" biker gang in 1974. It is rumored that the Outlaws were traveling through her hometown in Florida around the time that Amy disappeared. Since that time, Amy Billig's mother has, in the past, spoken with witnesses whom said that they saw Amy Alive after the day she was abducted.

As in regards to the UNSOLVED MYSTERIES episode which aired....if you saw that segment, you may remember that often, people referred to Amy as "mute". Could it be that someone cut out her tongue, so that she could not speak nor protest being treated as a possession? Or was she simply afraid of speaking and being punished?


A member of the "Pagans" Biker gang made a deathbed confession back in 1996 about the fate of Amy. He stated that she had been murdered on the same day which she disappeared. Obviously, this individual would not qualify as a credible witness- be that as it may, why would he have lied about the killing of Amy? What could he have gained from lying?


There is a rumor that Amy was involved with drugs on the day she disappeared after she had been abducted. Some witnesses have stated that one member of the biker gang became agitated at Amy and beat her to death. Her body was then dismembered and fed to alligators at the local swamp. If this is what happened, I feel so sorry for her.


But others have reported that Amy ended up becoming a courtesan for the biker gangs...and may have been in England after she was kidnapped.


People go missing all the time. I wonder what becomes of them? Could it be possible that all of the innocent people and children are murdered and buried in the woods, where they may never be found? It stands to reason that not all of them are killed gratuitously. Maybe some of the are taken by Alien life forms, and are taken light years from Earth- or even to other galaxies.


What is your opinion?

Yikes. I've seen this case updated so many times, on UM and other shows like American's Most Wanted.

Personally, I really don't know what to believe. I wouldn't doubt if she was abducted by a biker gang, since they used to do it quite often in those days. I also wouldn't doubt it if she was killed very soon after. I would have thought that if she was still alive after all these years, she could have found some way to contact her family. Maybe she couldn't because she wound up with amnesia or the biker gang brainwashed her.

One thing that really disturbed me about this case is that a website I visited not too long ago (I forgot what it was, it might have been the Doe Network) stated that it wasn't unusual for Amy to dabble in casual sex and marijuana. Of course, these were the days where lots of people did that. But I have always wondered if her personal habits may have landed her in trouble. I just don't see how she could leave her house in broad daylight (unless she took a shortcut to where she was going through an alley way or a dark area of town or what) and disappear without a trace.

I doubt this case will ever be solved unless a body turns up. I really feel for Amy's family, her mom especially. She has placed herself in harm's way more than once to find out what happened to Amy. But there are so many comflicting stories. It's really a sad, sad case.

This case has to be one of the most heartbreaking they have ever shown on UM. I'm glad AMW is also trying to find out what happened to Amy. I've always felt she was kidnapped by that biker gang that was riding through her home town on the day she disappeared. I also believe she was kept alive for awhile...since there were so many sightings of her, but at some point she became a liability to whoever was keeping her because there was so much publicity about the case.

Who knows why the gang member made a deathbed confession and admitting to killing her on the day she went missing? Maybe it was an ego thing...he tried to claim responsibility for what had become a very famous case. Or maybe his brain was just addeled by disease or a lifetime of drug and alcohol abuse. Whatever the reason, I think he was lying.

One of the most disturbing aspects of this case is the heartless monster who called Mrs. Billig for years claiming he was the one who kidnapped Amy. When he was finally arrested and went to trial he showed absolutely no remorse and actually blamed Mrs. Billig for being "obsessed" about finding her daughter. Unfortunately, he only served six years for the hell he put the Billig family through. What an absolute outrage.

I was shocked to see the Amy Billig case on AMW this weekend. I admire her mother a ton! I dont belive for one second that Amy is alive. Lead after lead has led nowhere and she would be in her 40's now and with all the footage of her on TV over the years, someone would most likely have recognized her. She was supposed to meet a friend for lunch the day she disappeared so she probably wasnt "up to no good", bringing about her abduction. I think she may have been friendly to anyone who approached her, esp. in the free loving times she was living in and maybe accepted a ride from a stranger, biker, whatever but I dont blame her mother for continuing to search for her. As a mom myself, I'd NEVER stop searching. I also think that Amy's description fit many, many girls at the time, come on, long brown hair, vegetarian, etc. The man who tortured her mother with those calls is a demon.:mad:

When the news of Amy's disappearance first got out, a few people came forward and said they thought they'd seen her get into a white van. But as soon as the motorcycle gang was fingered as the scapegoat, those people stopped coming forward-possibly enabling her killer to escape.

I don't think the bikers took her. Why should they? She was an uppermiddleclass white minor. There were prettier girls over 18 from less "protected" socioeconomic levels who're happy to join up with them for drugs, to escape an abusive home life, boredom, etc. It is not impossible that a biker took her-certainly if they're willing to kill they're willing to kidnap-but given her family's status and her age, they would have to realize that whatever they'd gain from taking her would be more than offset by the risks of taking a welloff girl. Most of the girls the bikers coerce into "exotic dancing" and prostitution get there after months of "courtship" : A biker makes her his 'old lady', gets her hooked on drugs...and then she learns she's property. For a biker to grab a girl off the streets on the spur of the moment, especially a minor from the 'right side of the tracks'...possible, but not likely.

The loathesome man who tormented Amy Billig's mother was a neighbor of hers...he lived barely a block away at the time of Amy's disappearance...his name was written in Amy's diary, in a way that suggested she was 'interested' in him...and at the time she vanished, he owned a white van. The creature was ruled out as a suspect, but I really wonder...He was a federal employee, so is it totally paranoid to suggest that Someone let him take the fall for obscene phone calls-but shielded him from a murder investigation?


I saw the trial of the ex custom's agent on CourtTv. His daughter is as vile as he is. She acted as if her dad had a right to do what he did, and that the court and the reporters were commiting lese majeste or something by daring to question his actions.



Without a Trace is the name of the book written about Amy. It is an infuriating book. Some good people-including some bikers-helped Amy's mom, but some true monsters added to her torment for fun. The ex customs agent was not the only one to do this. :(


I believe Amy died the same day she disappeared, possibly at the hands of a serial killer. I hope someday her remains are located.

I agree with you, Panther. It seems clearer and clearer to me that the bikers did NOT take Amy, as I'm sure they could have had their pick from willing girls. I think the diary entries would be the angle I would follow. Too coincidental. Has to be a link there. You're right, I think a lot of people played off Amy's moms' desperation to find her daughter. Perhaps some of the sleaze found her amusing to play around with. Not nice :( Though it is rare that bodies (remains) are discovered and identified 30 years later, there is always a glimmer of hope.:D
