Are the creators of this show racist or something? I don't understand why they don't allow black people on it.

Will and Grace Fanatic 10-04-2002, 01:16 AM What are you talking about the creaters of Friends have also done other shows like Veronica's Closet and Jesse which both had minorities in them. And if you saw tonights episode you would have seen that Chandler boss was a black women. She was actually the original Aunt on Fresh Prince. Plus in the meeting Chandler was having their were other minorities. GeorgeCTX 10-04-2002, 11:18 AM A fact of life is that not all people have friends of other races. Chandler & Ross both dated the same black woman, they have blacks and other minorities in the show backgrounds and sometimes in the foregrounds. To call the creators racist because they reflect a reality that we might not be comfortable saying out loud is racist itself. Don't you cringe when a network show comes out with one white character, one Asian, one black, and one hispanic and they're all supposed to be one big happy? In Bernie Mac's card game, the players are 3 black 1 hispanic. This reflects his close circle of friends. Is it racist because there are no whites or Asians in the group...No - it is a real example of how life is. Like it or not. PS. Racism (unfortunately) extends to all minorities, not just blacks. Women can be part of that minority too. Sammy M. Malone 10-04-2002, 04:26 PM Originally posted by GeorgeCTX A fact of life is that not all people have friends of other races. I'm white, I've written sitcoms scripts, and yes the lead characters are white. Is that racist? Brian Damage 10-04-2002, 04:56 PM Sheesh! I think people are waaaaay to politically correct nowadays! Sammy M. Malone 10-04-2002, 05:26 PM lol we need some becker. GoldenFamilyTies 10-07-2002, 10:49 PM Originally posted by Geekzilla Are the creators of this show racist or something? I don't understand why they don't allow black people on it. Of course they allow black people on it... KimFieldsFan637 10-08-2002, 09:40 PM Yeah, there has been more then one black woman on it, like GeorgeCTX said, Joey and Ross both dated the same Black woman when she moved into the building, Phoebe lose her job once and went on a interview and the woman was black, and in Thursday's episode like someone mentioned, Chandler's boss was black. So they aren't racists they just don't usually need a lot of other characters if you think about it, the mostly need the main 6, their families and some of their dates... flagler 10-08-2002, 10:23 PM I hate racism too. My father is white and my mother is black so I see both sides, however you can't just say why don't they have recurring african american actors, what about other races. I would agree with you if when casting the show they only wanted white people or asian people or hispanic or black. But if you leave the auditions open and the best people for the job are white or hispanic or black or asian what can you do. I agree however that there needs to be more diversity on television as a whole, not just friends. Pick the best actors for the job not who fits your idea of what they should look like. On another note it was Joey and Ross who dated the same woman, not Chandler and Ross. Chandler was engaged to Monica at the time. |
