I just read someone's signature and was offended. I am not Christian and the person that has this signature seems to believe that this is the only religion that matters or has values worth following. Not everyone follows the bible and many of the interpretations of the ideas expressed in it have caused harm to innocent people. Until all Christian religions have apologized for the harm that has been caused by their fellow believers and they quit pushing their beliefs on others I think they are no better than the "sinners" that they complain about. I personally believe that everyone has the right to their own ideas but not everyone wants to hear everyone else's ideas.

That is the offensive signature. I agree with the law of no religion in school because religion is an opinion not a fact. School is to teach facts so religion has no place there unless it is to study it, not practice it. And if my signature offends you, then I will change it. I'm sorry for making it so long.

But they get to. It's in the Constitution. Freedom of religion. Although I dont agree with ANYTHING they stand for, I am a Christian. I also dont think that religion should be in schools, but I dont think it's right that so many girls are pregnant. There's no way to make everyone happy.

I find it really funny when people say that there should be total freedom of speech, but then get all upset when someone expresses their religion. Do you also get offended when a Christian wears a cross necklace or happens to read the Bible in public?

No kidding. People can be so hypocritical. Its fine if they do it--but the moment someone else does it, they dont like it!!

Well, I thought of this message boards as a freedom board. I could voice whatever opinions on whatever subject and others could do the same.

However, I do worry about offending people. If I post something really important, notice I put either 'jmo or imo'. Religion is just one of those topics where some of the contents offends people and some aren't offended. It's kind of difficult to make a decision about some things. TJ could tell the person that had the signature that offended someone that they need to remove that certain part of the sig, but then the person that has the sig would be offended. I can't voice my opinions on this board, than screw this. I'm leaving. You lose either way. The sig person leaves if he/she has to be silenced. TJ loses a person on the boards if he makes them remove the content. You see what I mean?

Some people can be nit picky about certain things in all walks of life. Religion is just one of the top subjects that people disagree on.

If that signature offends you, just look out for the screen name of the person that has that in their sig. When you see their screen name, just skip by the post.

Personally, I don't come here to read sigs. I read the posts on the boards. At times, I look at sig pictures- but I don't bother to read quotes or song lyrics in peoples sigs. It would take too much time to read sigs and posts.

Someone has to be the better person. If something offends you, don't start screaming at it. It's up to somebody to turn the other cheek. It's better in the long run. If I said something to everybody that offended me, it would just cause a whole big uproar. I learned to turn the other cheek a long time ago when it came to certain things. Okay, I've run my mouth for long enough.

While it's wrong to think that only one person believes that their religion is the only right religion, I completely see why this upsets most people. We're taking regionalism in social studies right now and that's exactly the kind of situation the world is in. "everyone has the right to their own ideas but not everyone wants to hear everyone else's ideas." Also, the values worth following. I don't think that until an understanding of every cultures' religion will this kind of problem will be resolved.

I did not say in public I said in schools. And cross necklaces do not force your opinion onto others the way teaching Christian beliefs as if they were fact would. I never said I believe in total freedom of speech. I don't believe people should be allowed to practice, in public, something that offends a large number of people. I also believe that religion is a private matter and people should not try to force religion onto others that have none. People without religion live happily also. I have been to churches that reward members for recruting people. Someone is not truly a certain religion unless they truly believe it. And they don't really believe it if they are forced to. They need to make the choice themselves.

The bottom line is if you don't like/want something, it can't be forced upon you. I don't go to church & I'm perfectly happy. Nothing is being forced upon me. I ignore what offends me. If I didn't, I'd be a miserable person.

Yes Im a Christian but i dont see how, even if you are strongly against it, you can find it so offensive. Freedom of Speach, guys. Its not hurting anyone and hes not forcing it on anyone.

Some things can be offensive, but unless they aren't insulting you personally and they follow the rules of this site they are allowed to be posted.

I agree. I don't think anything is wrong with having that poem in their siggy. I mean, Titania's right, he isn't forcing it on anyone. It just shows his particular beliefs. Whether you believe it or not is your own choice, it's not like he's saying "believe this or you are condemned to hell!" For that matter, whether you even read it or not is your own choice, I mean, it's pretty obvious what the poem is about right when you start reading it. If that kind of stuff offends you maybe you shouldn't have read it all. Nobody MADE you read it did they?

ugh...You are like looking for a argument I see....ugh I agree that religion shouldn't be forced on people at all....It is the truth but you don't have it see it if you want....Your opinions are purely subjective, It doesn't matter what you think because the truth is the truth and that is it...If you see something which disagree's with your subjective opinion....simply ignore it...Ugh we have free speech and you can have whatever religion you damn well want...No one has posted a comment saying that your religious beleives are offensive....so basically but the person on your block list...or don't tell us because no one has said one thing yet about that sig being offensive.

You had several things wrong in your original post. First of all, how do you know what the person who's signature it was believes? You don't. You can't assume from a signature what a person believes. Secondly, you have absolutely nothing in your post to back up anything you said. What has caused harm to innocent people and how has it? Thirdly, you said that all Christian religions should apoligize for harm caused to fellow believers. How do you know that "all" Christian religions ahev caused harm to people? Have you personally done research on every single Christian denomination and talked to every person that's heard their doctrine? You can't prove your statement until you've done that, and if you already have, I'm really curious to know what you found out.

I hate to be doing this, I really do, and I don't want to be starting a fight or NEthing...but...do u realize that that above statement is very hypocritical. You're saying that people think that they should have a freedom of speech, but get all upset when it comes to religion. Well...she's expressing HER religion and HER beliefs about religion and it starts a whole big fight. Why the hell does there haveta be a WHOLE BIG FIGHT whenever somebody disagrees about something?
