I just watched Beverly Hillbillies and they were in Hooterville with Steve and Betty Jo Elliott, Sam Drucker and a Howard Hewes that Mr. Drysdale thought was the REAL Millionaire Howard Hughes.

Elly Mae took a liking to Dog (no surprise with her love of "critters"). She and Betty Jo would have made great buddies because Betty Jo was the tomboy prior to marrying Steve. Who knows? Since Betty Jo was the only Bradley Sister to marry (not that the other beautiful sisters couldn't), she might have given Elly Mae a few pointers--much to Granny's delight. :)

Watching the cross pollinated shows always was a great reminder of just how close everyone of Paul Henning's shows were. Just like a big family.

Hi Pianohoney,
I don't come over here too often, but I know you from Linda's PJ Board.

I also really like the cross "Pollination" of shows! Have you ever wondered if there was any relation between the 2 phone company operator Sarah's on the Andy Griffith Show & PJ/GA?
They were both nosey & were never seen nor heard from on either series!

I have often wondered about the timing of these crossover shows. I know that on PJ the birth of the baby and the final exit of Kate [Bea Benederet] were simultaneous, and it was quickly after this that the connection was made between the B Hillbillies and Hooterville. It's a good irony... a very rural setting being visited by big city folks who are even more backwoods. But in that BH ep where Granny decides to go to take care of Betty Jo's baby, she starts telling a wild story that she never finishes, so we never find out for sure how the connection [obviously new] is made... even though in an early BH ep a nearby town called 'Hooterville' is alluded to. It seems they avoid specifically mentioning that Kate is a lookalike relative of Pearl [not from Jed's side of the family], though that seems to be implied. Anyway, were both shows slipping by that time, and putting them together was just an experiemnt to see if their ratings would start to climb again? Was there even a small possibility that they might end up putting both 'clans' together more permanently in some way?

The friendship between Betty Jo and Elly May could have been dynamite, since both characters were patterned after one of Henning's daughters [so I've read, but not sure if that was Linda Kaye]

When Granny arrives at the Shady Rest she sees Joe without her glasses and says "They was right about you Kate, you and Cousin Pearl is lookalikes!". This implies that Kate and Pearl were related (on Pearl's mothers side, Jed was on her fathers side, as Pearl's maiden name was Clampett). Sadly Bea Benaderet had just died so she could not be part of this.
