I know sometimes when I speak of Freddie to my hubby, he doesn't understand the fascination I have with Freddie. My hubby saw the shows back then too and he agrees "Freddie would still be famous today". I just don't think he understands me watching his show, talking about him, getting on the net etc. Even my own sister looked at me a little weird! My older sister also like freddie but, I know for a fact that Freddie broke alot of hearts back then. I believe my sister still feels sad about it but, won't comment. Luckily my hubby does let me do my own thing & he does his own thing that's how we get along so well. One of these days I'm going to tell him that I want to go to Forest Lawn cemetary so I can place flowers on his grave site.... We'll both go. (He doesn't know it yet). All I've told him is I want to go to see Hollywood. We've both never been there - so he's interested in going too. I'm so glad I found this site!

Yeah, I know my husband and my parents all think I'm nuts! The only one who remotely understands is my 8 year old daughter! I'm just glad she already appreciates fine masculine appearance and great comedy acting! She especially loves his impressions and accents. I've used Freddie's story as a way of impressing upon her the dangers of drugs, too--she's so deep, she asked me, "Mommy, why didn't anybody stop him(from killing himself)?" Wow!

HI, JENNY AND MARIPOSAL,
MARIPOSAL YOUR DAUGHTER IS SOOOOOOOO
SMART THAT IS THE QUESTION WE ALL HAVE ASKED
OURSELVES OVER AND OVER AGAIN, "WHY NO ONE
STOPPED FREDDIE FROM KILLING HIMSELF"?
WHAT WAS THE STUPID, IGNORANT, DUMB,
MANAGER DOING WHILE FREDDIE WAS ON THE
TELEPHONE CALLING EVERYONE, AND WHY THAT
TRAMP HE WAS MARRIED TO CALL 911 TO SEND
SOMEONE TO THE HOTEL OR CALL THE POLICE AND
LET THEM KNOW ABOUT WHAT HE WAS GOING TO DO.
I JUST FOUND OUT KATHY HAD A RESTRAINING
ORDER AGAINST FREDDIE, AND THAT ALONG SENT
HIM OVER THE EDGE, IF HE WAS ORDERED TO STAY
AWAY FROM HER THEN SOMEONE SHOULD HAVE
ORDERED HER TO STAY AWAY FROM THE FUNERAL.
YOU ALL ARE NOT "NUTS" FOR THE WAY YOU FEEL
ABOUT FREDDIE, I GREW UP IN HOLLYWOOD, I
WAS ABOUT 4 YRS OLD WHEN THAT HAPPENED TO
FREDDIE. BUT MY MOTHER WENT TO TAPINGS OF
THE 70'S SHOWS THEY WERE TAPED BEFORE A LIVE
AUDIENCE. AS A MATTER OF FACT FREDDIE WAS
ONLY A YEAR OLDER THAN MY MOTHER. HE WOULD
BE SOOOOOOOOOOO YOUNG TODAY. I AM GOING TO
STOP NOW, I AM SO UPSET JUST THINKING
"WHY NO ONE STOPPED FREDDIE"
JENNY HOLLYWOOD IS A SIGHT FOR SORE EYE(SMILE). TRACY

Jenny, you have plenty of company. I finally shared with my 20 year old son my activities on the CATM message boards thinking he would understand since he talks to people all over the country on the net. My husband would think I was nuts and my daughters, 16 and 12, do think I should act my age.(whatever that means) I felt I had to share this secret obsession about talking about CATM and Freddie with someone here or I would bust. All he said was that I could talk to strangers on the net but I never have time to get on the instant messenger service and talk to him.(Not true by the way)I guess our families are special, but we each have our own interests. And I do enjoy sharing mine with you all. I do not consider you strangers, by the way, but great friends.

Glad to see others feel the same as I do! I was 13 when I watched Chico and I remember having his picture on the door of my room. At that age, it was very hard to comprehend the suicide of your favorite star. I remember running out of the room in tears watching the first show with Gabriel Melgar. I hadn't thought of the show for years, until Freddie's son came on the scene. I was almost afraid to watch Chico again, but I couldn't help myself. I am just as addicted as ever. I am sad however, as I watch and see what looks like a deterioration of Freddie on screen. But what can you do but try and watch the show and remember the happiness it brought us all. To this day I still cannot forget the pain I felt as a 13 year old going through that. But seeing the show now I think helps us all grieve as adults.

I have had my own fascination with Freddie ever since I was 10 when the show premiered! When FP passed away, MAN, that was my first heartbreak! I have been collecting info on him for years, and it is a bit theraputic to read these posts. I realize that I am not alone!

JennyLee, you simply must visit Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, and take it all in. I have visited FP's grave every time I am in the L.A. area. It is difficult at times not to be angry, but I feel blessed that we witnessed Freddie's brilliance! Thanks to TVLand, he is in living rooms once again!

You are right Dannii! I will go one day! Thanks so much for posting that you've gone and visited Forest Lawn. I needed to hear that!

I just recently discovered these message boards on CHICO & THE MAN & some other good shows I've loved over the yrs & they're cool! Glad they put CHICO back on TVLAND. It's a good one! I've been watching from the marathon onward.

I was lucky to be in high school when that was on tv. I remember when Freddie Prize died. I went to school one day & this friend of mine came to school & said she'd heard on the news that Freddie had commited suicide & had died & she'd been upset & crying over it. I was like huh you're kidding right-- I mean he's on CHICO & THE MAN. She said no it's true. I couldn't believe it a kid not that much older than us ending his life. How sad & tragic.

Altho I liked the future episodes of CHICO it's just wan't the same after he was gone. The classic CHICO episodes were the ones with Freddie. I think after he passed on they should've renamed the show ED BROWNS GARAGE instead to reflect that CHICO was no longer on there.

I noticed on CHICO the other nite what good morals he had on there. Like The Man Ed after Chico moves out asks him which one is he gonna go with the nurse or the stewardess & insinuates like he thinks Chico might move in with one of them & live with them. Chico talks like he's not that kind of guy & tells Ed he has an X-rated mind. LOL! It shows me what a moral person he was. He could've taken advantage of the girls if he wanted to since he liked nurses & staying out late with them, but he didn't. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif Also he goes to Rev Bemis church & even preaches there. Not too many shows these days have good morals like that so it's nice to watch a good show like that. Good clean fun & nice looking actors too as a bonus. (You can guess who I'm talking about there LOL!) I saw recently on a Chico website about his friend Mando & an old pic of Mando from the show. I'd forgot about him as I hadn't seen him in yrs but he's not bad looking either. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

I figure since I don't know much about Freddie other than Chico & sadly he wasn't here very long that probably what alot of folks are really attracted to is the Chico character. It does make me wonder what he was really like. Anyway the show was really realistic. I felt when I watched the show like I really knew the characters & I've felt that way about loads of other old shows I grew up with like The Andy Griffith show, Dick Van Dyke Show etc...

I see nothing wrong with being a fan of a star & collecting on them & thinking they're cute etc. It's not just for teens, it's for us older ones too LOL! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif I'm a big fasn of a singer from the 60's/70's & got to meet him after the first show of his I went to & that's how my hubby & I became friends with him. I not only collect everything on him but go to any shows he does in my state & other nearby states & always get to meet him at his shows & he's been a real friend to myself & my hubby. My hubby understands my being fan of stars & collecting on them etc & thinking they're cute. He's a big Elvis fan & also a fan of other stars & collects o them too. I let him keep his Dolly Parton Poster up on the bedroom closet door LOL!
So you're all fine to me. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

Anyway getting back to Chico. I started taping the episodes so I'll have them to keep in case it ever goes off. I told hubby I was taping them & he was so glad so he can now see them too. He doesn't get to see CHICO cuz he has to flip back & forth between David Letterman & Jay Leno. Talk about having wrong priorities LOL! I'd rather see CHICO. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif The other nite I saw Chico in a nice looking shirt with a print on it & thought man my hubby would look good in that! (He has dark hair & is good looking too! Well to me anyway LOL!) He said he thought I must be liking Chico. I told him he's not bad looking at all so why not LOL!

Anyway just wanted to say I think it's great there are folks out there still enjoying this show & the other good old shows I love out there. I love TVLAND. It's my favorite channel. They play some of the best shows. Now if they'll put CHICO on at primetime instead of the upcoming 5 am slot. Come that time, my tape will have the commercials in them. Tape while I sleep LOL! Didn't mean to go on so long but just reminiscing about the show. Peace!

(edited for spelling errors LOL!)

Welcome Cheryl - I enjoyed reading your post. I also comment on the other boards every now & then. This is he first time I've been seeing the "Chico and the man" show since he passed away. I saw some of the Fandemonium & now the episodes. I've always loved Freddie. This is the only thing thats left of him is the Chico shows. So I watch them.

Thanks for the welcome. CHICO & THE MAN Is one of about half a million old 50's/60's/70's shows that I love watching. I recently dreamed a whole episde of CHICO one nite. I wish I could write it down but it would take too long. If I ahd that internet program where youspeak into the puter & it write it out for ya then maybe LOL!

I found this site with a neat articel on Freddie Prize while looking up stuff on CHICO & THE MAN:
