Saturday Night Live is one of the longest running, most successful network TV shows in history. Looking at the juggernaut that is SNL today, it's hard to imagine a time (https://bronwynjoan.com/blog/2011/08/02/snl-up-close-1980-81) that Saturday Night Live (https://bronwynjoan.com/blog/2012/08/10/final-thoughts-on-snl-season-6-1980-81) was so terrible (https://uproxx.com/tv/worst-snl-seasons/), it was almost taken off the air completely. It wouldn't be until SNL's creator Lorne Michaels returned to right the sinking ship (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/SeasonalRot/LiveActionTV) that it would go on a run not unlike anything people have seen before. Thankfully it wasn't cancelled, and Saturday Night Live is still going strong nearing it's 50th anniversary.

This week, 13WT takes on the ill-fated 1980 reboot of "Saturday Night Live," (https://www.avclub.com/how-bad-can-it-be-case-file-23-saturday-night-live-s-1798233191) from Al Franken shooting his mouth off to Charlie Rocket (https://youtu.be/-56R94z_hBg)'s F-Bomb and beyond!

Saturday Night Live has had plenty of ups and downs over the years, but the show has never faced a disaster quite like its sixth season (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday_Night_Live_season_6), known as the forgotten season. It all started when showrunner Lorne Michaels decided that he wanted a break from the show, which led most of the cast and writers to follow him out the door.

This left a new and inexperienced showrunner with an entirely new cast (https://www.vulture.com/2013/09/the-8-biggest-transitional-seasons-in-snl-history.html), which thankfully did include Eddie Murphy (https://www.theringer.com/tv/2019/12/20/21029815/eddie-murphy-saturday-night-live-first-season-mister-robinson) and Joe Piscopo. Eventually, things got back on track, and Michaels also returned to the show, but let’s take a look at the untold truth of SNL’s forgotten season (https://www.onesnladay.com/reviews/season-6-1980-81/).
