I always was a big fan of the Larry character and i think it should have been on more than Mr. Furley. Actually i saw no reason for Mr. Furley to be seen as much as he was because he was only the Landlord. Landlord are not around their tenants all the time but Larry was the best friend of the main character-"Jack Tripper", which would have made more sense to see more of him. I think that Larry and Jack locked in the freezer would have been much funnier than of Mr. Furley.

I like larry more than RF, and i think that Richard Kline deserved more airtime, considering the fact he was HILLARIOUS.

Well...as I heard, Joyce and Richard would at times not get along very much with the producers, hence the fact that the people that the producers loved would get more significant characters and airtime. I guess that during the Suzanne Somers scandel, Richard and Joyce protested against the producers because of the fact that they weren't getting any attention towards the other actors, and that the producers were too busy with Suzanne. Maybe I'm just going too deep into the subject, but I want everyone to know the facts.

Yes Larry was the best, any episode he was on he made me laugh. Here goes two classic quotes from Larry.

Larry was practicing CPR on a dummy-and Terri wanted more rythm-so larry said

" You want rythm, i give you rythm, one boogie woogie, two boogie woogie-i was laughing so hard.

Then it was another time when Larry and Jack and the girls went to the cabin and the guys foud out the magazine was not terri's or janet's

Terri: A patient at the hospital

Larry: You would happen to have Alice's number would you?

Terri: LARRY SHE"S 84 YEARS OLD!!

I liked them both equally. Larry's sneakiness and Furley's eccentricities.

Kline had great, subtle line readings that equaled a big laugh.

"You mean the one with those great...danes?"

"Always wanted a wife that would make me homecooked dinners"..."Then why don't you get married?"..."I've never been that hungry."

But Knotts could bust me up with just an expression on his face. Those classic bugged eyes when he'd misinterpret something. I think the hardest I laughed at him was in the Jack's brother Austin ep where he knocks on the bathroom door and Jack says "Lookin' for me?" Knotts does this overblown, hilarious double take that was priceless.

Yes, landlords don't get that involved with tenants lives. But it's just one of those elements of unreality in a tv show. Like ever notice that they never lock their door? Or unlock it for that matter.

i liked RF better than Larry, i think he was funnier, Larry was a good in his part but i still like RF better.

Well Mr. Roper basically was a cool type of funny. Mr. Furley was just a Littlt too goofy

Mr. Furley was funny, but I'll take a scene with Larry any day of the week. He deserved more airtime.

I agree.. Larry & Mr. Roper were great.. Mr. Furley was okay too, but I liked Don Knotts better on Andy Griffith.

;) i loved Larry and all those used car salesman jokes. in the honesy episode, Jack looks at Larry: "you know, honesty is the best policy!", Larry says: "what are you talking about? I'm a used car salesman!". it doesn't sound funny but it was the way Larry said it and his departing words in reference to Jack's honesty kick in the scene: "lie down, it'll pass!". who could forget Larry's obsessions over "Greedy" Gretchen or those Varellie twins, i think that was their last name? however, because the show was about a guy pretending to be gay so he could share an apartment with two women and fool the landlord (whether it be Mr. Roper or Mr. Furley), there wasn't much call for Larry's character other than in a group scene at the Regal Beagle or a brief scene at the apartment. I liked Mr. Furley and he had to be in most of the episodes because he lived right below them...not only that, the "gay" jokes were hilarious and integral to the plot but they were only played out in front of the landlord, hence Roper or Furley always hanging around. at the same time, i loved Roper's grin and laugh when he looked directly in the camera after insulting Helen. how about Furley's hyperventilation routine?

Did you noticed how the 79-80 Mr. Furley went from serious to extremely GOOFY the 80-81 season after Chrissy left? I guess the producers had to make someone goofy after chrissy left.

:eek: i did notice that Furley became more silly because his macho act wasn't fooling the "kids" as they were called. i also think it was the 1980 season that we saw Furley's redecoration of the Roper's apartment...i might be wrong. i never did understand why Furley's brother, Bart, the actual owner of the building, was never a regular character!? i think Hamilton Camp played the role once or twice.

The Ropers old Apt was redecorated in the fall of 79 and I too think Bart should have been seen more on the show since he was talked about so much. I don't think as a regular but as a reoccuring character like Felipe, Mr. Travers, and Mr. Angelino.

I am a fan of both. I think Larry should've had more time, but Furley was great, although he was no Mr. Roper (or Mrs. Roper).
