MeTV yesterday (June 17, 2024) ran the episode “Most Interesting Character,” which I noticed closing out Season 2, and then “Blind Date Committee” (start of season 3) was shown. I have two questions…

(1) As this episode was very heartwarming to listen to the final draft of Beaver’s composition, I was wondering, as MeTV must trim time to accommodate commercials: Was there, or was there not, an actual result in school how the composition fared? Is it on DVD? I would think it almost imperative to find out what Miss Landers and the class thought.

(2) The ep ended with the Cleavers making an offer on the new house (“We’ll each have our own room,” which didn’t materialize). I forgot if the closing was accomplished in the ep (please remind me). With that subplot, was it already determined at the time of filming that there WILL be another season? I couldn’t see why not; that subplot would be totally unnecessary otherwise.

As to the first item, I have seen the DVD episode, and no, nothing more with the class. As is well known, that was Mathers' favorite episode, as detailed in his book.

As for item 2, the move to another house was a subplot in a few other episodes near the end of the second season, too. As to whether ABC had renewed the show, maybe someone else knows.

I do remember that the move was necessary. I want to say on-location scenes were filmed at Republic and had to move to Revue. Again, maybe others can fill in the details. I'd need to look it up in Mathera' book--I think he details it in that.

Since the exterior house had to change, they obviously had to construct new sets.

Being a life-long Beaver fan, I've seen the version of the show on ME-TV and there doesn't seem to be any editing to the show at all. This network's commercial breaks are only 3 minutes as compared to other networks that have 4 minutes!

The only mention of the second house comes very early in season 3 in the episode where Beaver wants to uproot the tree in front of the old house. When the show moved to ABC for the second season the show then moved to Revue Studios ( Universal).
