Yes its sad............ I like AM alot!! (AM mode in general,not just .52 - 1.71Mhz)

They probably can get away with it since Japan is a small country. But I don't think it will ever happen in America since USA is such a vast country. If some catastrophic event happen and Internet and satellite communication goes down, AM and Shortwave signals will be the only method where the signals can reach far and wide for communication.
