I guess Sammy M. Malone's gut feeling that there was going to be a reunion announcement was a little off.;) Sadly, there was still no official announcement of a reunion special, however, I did read something about a week or two ago. Apparently, Kirstie Alley was approached with the idea about reprising her role as Rebecca Howe for a possible reunion on NBC.

Kirstie flat out refused the offer saying something like, "Been there, done that." There is some speculation that Alley had a falling out with NBC while producing her sitcom Veronica's Closet. She wanted more creative control and NBC refused. She was also surprised when NBC decided to cancel her show despite decent ratings.

So because of all of this, Alley is spiting the cast of Cheers and refusing to be a part of any NBC reunions.

Probably shooting another Crappy Pier 1 commercal at that time. J/k
But it's kind of sad that Some cast members on Cheers fail to realize that this is what put them on the map.

I say good riddance to her. As long as you have Sam and Diane and the rest of the core group, you don't need Rebecca. They can make an excuse like she found a job in Newark, New Jersey or something like that.

I can imagine her absence being explained by her checking into the same sanitarium where Diane and Frasier met. :)

Actually, on the show Frasier,in the episode with Sam, they explained how Don became rich and ran off with another woman.

"Alley is spiting the cast of Cheers and refusing to be a part of any NBC reunions."

That bitch.

Cheers made her, why wouldn't she go back? She is doing crappy now, no more movies, VC failed, Pier 1 is probably going to close soon.

I dunno I think the reason she doesn't want to play Rebecca again is because NBC cancelled her show, and they moved it. And Rebecca is sort of a neurotic screw-up who whines a lot and I just think that Kirstie doesn't want to play her anymore, but still I think she should do it, I mean Cheers did give her stardom but who knows...maybe she just doesn't want to do TV anymore.

Oh yea and I don't think Woody Harrelson will want to do a reunion playing a naive bartender, I bet he feels hes outgrown the part, and doesn't want to be remembered as Woody.

The thing is, Kirstie is in negotiations for her own talk show like Riki Lake, Oprah and Jerry Springer. So I doubt it has anything to do with not being on TV anymore.

The good news is, noone in the cast really made it that big outside of Cheers. So they really shouldn't have inflated, movie star egos and think they're above television.

Yea...I don't think she hates anyone from Cheers or anything like that but probably just wants to make a career change like you said.
