Morgan Spurlock, the charismatic filmmaker-slash-subject of the Oscar-nominated 2004 documentary Super Size Me, died Thursday at the age of 53 from complications from cancer.
Spurlock's representative announced the news on Friday. “It was a sad day as we said goodbye to my brother Morgan,” said Craig Spurlock, who worked with him on several projects. “Morgan gave so much through his art, ideas, and generosity. The world has lost a true creative genius and a special man. I am so proud to have worked together with him.”
Inspired by a lawsuit from two teenage girls claiming food from McDonald's had made them obese, Spurlock launched an experiment in which he ate three meals a day from the fast-food franchise for 30 days while his film crew documented its effects on his body.
The resulting film, Super Size Me, was a breakout hit at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004, and it later earned Spurlock an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature.

This isn't the place to discuss the cause of his cancer. They didn't announce what cancer he had or how long he had it. Any talk about it is pure speculation at this point. We're not having the debate about the vaccines on here.
I always enjoyed his documentaries and TV series. He seemed like a very likable and personable dude. 53 is way too young. May he rest in peace.

She’s still talking about the vaccine?
When is it going to sink in that it’s prohibited here?

One of these days she's going to be on the outside looking in for repeated rules violations. I don't know how many times she needs to be told to stop it. She seems to be more forgetful. Her memory might be fading.
She claims she has never told anyone to shut up, but I'm not like that. She needs to shut up already.

She sadly couldn't care less about the rules, continuing to thumb her nose at the no politics/no vaccine talk rule. It is especially bad for the total lack of respect about deaths in their threads.
Caroline13 05-28-2024, 11:21 PM I care about rules but I care more about people and why dying so much more NOW. And young, MOST here do NOT want to believe what we've been put thru, not me thank goodness....

OK let's talk Morgan Spurlock. He lied to his doctor during the film, he was asked by the doctor if he used alcohol and he emphatically replied, no. Now let's ride off to his famous 12/14/17 statement on Twitter:
"I’ve consistently been drinking since the age of 13". "I haven’t been sober for more than a week in 30 years".
He lied about a material fact, he was born in 1970 which means he had been drinking since 1983. Further by his own admission he had been drinking heavily ("I haven't been sober') since 1987. The film was released around 2003 which means he had been a heavy drinker for around 15 years. In all likelihood his overall health could have been severely compromised going into the experiment, and to add insult to injury his words indicate he was drinking during the experiment. He may have lied about other things, we don't know! He may have been aware that liver damage had already been done, tests that should have been performed were not based on his statements. So what was identified as a problem with the fast food diet may have in fact been a preexisting condition.
Supersizing at MacDonald's isn't going to kill you, that said, it shouldn't be a regular part of anyone's diet.
