For those unaware, Suicide is Painless is the theme song of the M*A*S*H movie. The instrumental was used for the M*A*S*H TV show but CBS had concerns about the lyrics being used on their network. As a dramedy M*A*S*H naturally touched on suicide a few times. But I was watching The Courtship of Eddie's Father tonight, was shocked to see in this otherwise sunny sitcom from 1969 6 year old boys discussing suicide in episode 11 Mrs. Livingston Gets an F. I also had not heard of a 2nd Harry Carey besides the sportscaster.

There were two Harry Careys who were actors, the first one was in a number of Western movies and also in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. The second was Harry Carey, Jr. who appeared in 90 movies and also portrayed Triple R Ranch counselor Bill Burnett in the Spin and Marty serial that was part of The Mickey Mouse Club.

And since the original post inquired about suicide, there was one episode of Soap where Jodie tried to commit suicide after losing his lover, quarterback Dennis Phillips.

The Japanese suicide ritual is actually spelled Hari-Kari.

In the Frasier episode, "How to Bury a Millionaire", Niles rents an apartment and it's strongly implied that the previous occupant committed suicide. The building super says, "He left a note...but no address."

On The Golden Girls "Not Another Monday" Martha Lamont, one of Sophia's close friends, considers killing herself.

On Seinfeld, Newman tried to kill himself by jumping off the roof of a building. Another episode had a neighbor try to commit suicide and end up in a coma.

There was an episode of The Jeffersons where Florence was gonna commit suicide.

On One Day At A Time, the 'Barbara's Friend' two parter deals with a girl who tries to commit suicide with pills (not really a friend of Barbara's, more a girl who latches on to her).
