I've been eagerly anticipating the release of the Complete First Season of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" on DVD, but I was surprised to notice the episode "Christmas and the Hard-Luck Kid II" on DVD has a small edit. At the beginning of chapter 8 of that episode on DVD, Mary is watching an orchestra on TV play "White Christmas." Mary sings "May your days be merry" and then she gets up and changes the channel. I own a VHS copy of that episode that MTM Home Video released in 1992 and in that same scene Mary still sings "May your days be merry" but she also continues singing "and bright and may all your Christmases be white." As the audience from the TV program begins to applaud, Mary says "Thank you, Thank you and for my next number I think I'm going to cry." Then she gets up and changes the channel. The portion missing from the DVD is 20 seconds long and should be at the 18 minute 49 second mark of the episode.

That's too bad... I wonder why it was edited. But I am still set on getting this DVD set!! Come Hell or high water, the first season will be mine!

For anyone who's thinking about getting the DVD, I would sugest going to Costco to buy it, if you can. I was there today, and they have it for $32. That's like $10 less than what I paid at Amazon. Just a suggestion.

Just curious if any other edits have been discovered??
Also, speaking of "Christmas & The Hard Luck Kid II", there's one thing that doesn't make any sense to me.. The gang all surprise Mary at work, and claim they are going to have a Christmas party.. Mary then phones Rhoda, and asks her to come down.. Yet, when the show comes back from commercial break, Mary is seen heading towards the door, ready to grab her coat, and leave..?? Mr. Grant then points out to her that she's not off for another half hour.. Did Mary forget she just called Rhoda, and invited her to the office?
