I've noticed that in cakes that flavors for cakes have become quite odd and become odder and odder and I would like to know if this is a new trend that bakeries are doing to cakes now? Take for example my mom tried to get a cake for Mother's Day and all the flavors for cakes are now Hawaiian cake jelly filled cake coconut cake and cheesecake and I can't figure out when cakes started becoming odd in flavors today? It used to be that for any kind of cake whether it was a birthday cake or a wedding cake or any cake in general the top flavors were always white vanilla cake and chocolate cake. But if you go to any bakery or supermarket they always have flavors like Red Velvet German Chocolate and raspberry swirl cake and they even have cakes with walnut pieces inside and when my mom told me this it shocked me that these new cake flavors are the new trend. I can't imagine who would eat a coconut cake or a Hawaiian cake with pineapple pieces in it? But I think we need to see vanilla or chocolate be the top flavors of cake again and everybody would love those cakes again

Golly, you can't find a suitable cake? There are 100's out there from very plain to very fancy and every type store. Bake one if it's that hard to find one, there are box cakes that have been used for decades and good tasting...

Oh and BTW I absolutely would love a piece of coconut cake or a cake with pineapple in it. Could be you folks need to step out of your plain boxes...

A cake flavor that I always found very odd and I can't figure out how it's selling or why people like these cakes is cakes with filling inside? My aunt would always buy these types of cakes for my cousins birthday parties and I never figured out what was the big hype about them. I can see a cake filled with vanilla pudding or chocolate pudding that would be cool to eat but not lemon filled or jelly filled or raspberry filled. When my mother and I were looking at Mother's Day cakes we couldn't believe our eyes when we saw the odd cake flavors and the vanilla cake we were gonna buy had coconut in it and walnuts. I mean who eats a cake with those two things in it? And another thing they are selling are cakes with no sugar flavor and to me that's very odd that cakes are done with these weird flavors now

Hawk: You come across with such suprise on what millions choose for their cake choices.....you sound like a fairly young person who has a closed mind. that's how I see it. geeeeeeeeezzzz

I love plain basic cakes too. But not full chocolate . Chocolate cake with white / vanilla icing is good. Or a total white/ vanilla cake . I also love coconut cake or lemon cake . My two favorite flavors. I'm not into fruit filled or fancy cakes too much either ! Except a beautiful wedding or birthday cake decorated but still not a fancy flavor ! ;)

I like lemon, New York cheesecake, coconut, German chocolate, the list goes on. I'd never had carrot cake until my mid-teens. Loved it.

We have a family recipe for pineapple upside-down cake, that's some good eatin'...! :)

One of the Greek cakes is made with ground walnuts and syrup. My mom used to make it for my nameday (which is like a birthday).

Biff, good to see you have developed a large variety of interest in many deserts, you left the basics and that's good to see, my mom made a delish pineapple upside down cake, what a treat that was

I don't really like pineapple upside down cake. I like pineapples but not in cake. I like pineapple pie . Also I'm not too into carrot cake either. I used to like it , but one time I got a carrot cake that wasn't very good and it turned me off of it. I love carrots as a veggie though, cooked or raw . ;)

My dad's favorite pie was pineapple. It's not too common in my part of the U.S. though.

Yeah, Pineapple pie isn't that common. I only had it like two times in my life. It's not sold in too many places.

I also like pound cake and coffee cake. Delicious in the morning or
an afternoon snack with some coffee or tea. ;)
