Why not just keep going and get it all down to the scalp instead of areas of longer growth?

Cracks me up every time I see it.

When I was a kid my barber's nickname was "chop chop". I'd always cringe a little when I saw this episode.

What do we expect when we learned early on that Beaver's barber is Floyd? (Well, okay, we don't learn he's a barber in Mayfield until he "shaves" Wally in "The Shave" from season 2. And his first name is Andy.)

June's horrified reaction is one of the series' great moments.

Not to be outdone….

The name Floyd for barbers goes back even farther! I have an old time radio app, and was listening to a 1951 episode of “The Great Gildersleeve” with a Floyd the barber. Going to a webpage on OTR, I learned that THAT Floyd goes back to 1942!

Any more/older Floyd-the-barbers? :)

No, but there are some go-to names for TV writers of old. Martha was a biggie, frequently an aunt. Telephone operators are Sarah, or maybe Marge. Butlers have certain names, too--just an't think of one.

There is a possibility that after June and Ward saw the haircut they did trim it so it was more evened out.

If you look carefully, you can see it's a wig he wore for the aftermath results! Practical because they started filming the next episode a week later!
