In the final episode, in Mama's flashback, the baby Mama carries in is obviously supposed to be Ellen, if I recall right we can see the baby's head, which I guess is a doll....even though not Betty White, it's supposed to be the CHARACTER Ellen lol

I've seen pages go so far as to credit Eunice as appearing in one syndicated episode because of her phone conversation with Mama in Pomp and Circumstance. I've seen Pomp and Circumstance credited as Eunice's final appearance.

You know, I never thought about it that way, but I guess Ellen did sorta “appear” in that episode.

Speaking of, they should have made a deal with Betty White where she was to appear in one episode per season during the syndicated years. I would have loved to see more Ellen.

I get the feeling Betty White probably would have done it, too, despite the popularity of the Golden Girls throughout the syndicated years. She was the only character who was primary during the NBC years but not syndication to participate in the Mama's Family reunion on Vicki, so there seemed to be that willingness to continue being associated with the show.
I personally maintain that Best Medicine was meant all along to be Ellen's final appearance, that one real last break with the NBC years. If she came back, great, but that episode would stand as her farewell if not.
