"The Neighborhood" Spinoff "Crutch" Starring Tracy Morgan Ordered at Paramount+

"The Neighborhood" universe is expanding with a second series, "Crutch". Paramount+ has picked up the half-hour, multi-camera comedy headlined by Tracy Morgan.

"Crutch" hails from Owen Smith, who penned the pilot script, and "The Neighborhood‘s" production companies, Cedric’s A Bird and a Bear Entertainment, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, Wendi Trilling TrillTV and CBS Studios.

It centers on its titular character Francois “Frank” Crutchfield (Morgan) – or “Crutch” to those who know him well – a Harlem widower whose empty-nest plans are put on hold after his millennial son and free-spirited daughter move back home.




“I’m excited to be expanding our The Neighborhood universe by producing a show with the legendary comedian Tracy Morgan,” Cedric The Entertainer said.

“This new character is the close cousin to my character Calvin Butler, and you will enjoy some of their many similarities. Morgan plays Crutch, a ‘say-it-like-it-is’ widowed father who is challenged when his two adult children and a couple of grandchildren need to move back home, and let’s just say there will be several comedic complications.”

Jermaine Fowler (Superior Donuts) has been tapped as a lead opposite Tracy Morgan in Paramount+ new multi-camera comedy series "Crutch", an offshoot from CBS’ long-running sitcom "The Neighborhood".

He will play Jake Crutchfield, an Ivy League educated lawyer who forgoes a high-paying position at a swanky, white shoe law firm to provide low-cost legal aid in Harlem.

"Crutch" Casts Adrianna Mitchell (EXCLUSIVE)

Adrianna Mitchell (Snowfall) has been cast in the upcoming Tracy Morgan comedy series “Crutch” at Paramount+, Variety has learned exclusively.

She will play Jamilah, the daughter of Tracy Morgan's Francois ‘Frank’ Crutchfield.


Jamilah is described as “a free spirited, naturalista with a dry wit and sharp tongue. Notoriously fickle, the most consistent part of her life was her 10-year marriage and the cozy suburban life she built for her husband and two kids in the Minneapolis suburbs.

But when that starts to fall apart, she finds herself and her children Lisa, 12 and Mase, 9 back in Harlem at Crutch’s doorstep.”

Kecia Lewis Joins "Crutch"

Tony winner Kecia Lewis (Hell’s Kitchen) has joined the cast of "Crutch", an offshoot from CBS’ long-running sitcom "The Neighborhood", which has started filming in New York.

Lewis will play Antoinette, Crutch’s (Tracy Morgan) meddling sister-in-law who, much to his chagrin, has inserted herself as the de facto matriarch of the Crutchfield clan.



Elegant, worldly, and self-righteous Antoinette is a long-time divorcee whose life revolves around her weekly hair appointments and her job as a correctional officer at Rikers Island.

However, when her sister’s children come back to Harlem with their lives in disarray, she’s happy to step in to help — even if she has to deal with Crutch in the process.

Cedric the Entertainer Offers Update on Tracy Morgan Offshoot "Crutch"

While Cedric the Entertainer is bummed that CBS has passed on the untitled offshoot of "The Neighborhood", he is excited about the Paramount+ offshoot "Crutch" starring Tracy Morgan.

“We shot eight episodes,” Cedric tells TV Line. “We put together a really great cast, and it was fun to do some guest appearances,” confirming that he and Tichina Arnold will appear twice in Season 1 as Calvin and Tina, while Max Greenfield will put in an appearance as Dave.

“We’re going to air it some time in the fall, and we’re excited about that.”
