With the recent writers and actors strikes and the end of the streaming wars, the immediate future for TV is not looking great. So we wanted to take a look at all the worst years of TV (https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/333kj1/what_was_the_worst_period_of_television/) and what made them so bad. It won't just be years that had the worst shows as that's hard to measure but instead what years had the worst impact on the industry. Also note that we won't be going too far in the past because most shows used to be just copies of one another.

We've found 5 years we think are some of the worst of TV and for TV. We'll be looking at the effect of a global pandemic, shifts in the industry, a genre we don't enjoy being pushed to the mainstream and when TV lost out to another form of media.

I would have to say that the worst year for TV was 1994 because during the time the OJ Simpson trial was all the rage it hurt TV shows the most especially in syndication because syndication had a lot of promising new talk shows and game shows such as the short-lived Family Feud that marked Richard Dawson's return as a Comeback Kid to game shows and the promising 1994 primetime syndicated version of The Price Is Right with soap star Doug Davidson making his game show host debut and although it was destined to be a huge hit but due to countless preemptions due to the OJ Simpson trial updates it was soon cancelled. Talk shows were also affected by this famous trial and just like the game shows they either pushed back airdates or were only on for one season then got cancelled. But once the OJ Simpson trial had ended TV had gone back to normal and we got introduced to new sitcoms such as Friends and Seinfeld was still going strong for NBC. But in primetime TV the worst channel to develop promising sitcoms for 1994 was FOX and FOX had sitcoms that were gonna be huge but got cancelled but shows like The Simpsons Married With Children and Martin were monster hits in 1994 and I think FOX simply wanted to focus on developing crime dramas during 1994. So if anyone asks you the worst year for TV you simply say 1994
