What would Amen be like if it was still on NBC for the 1991-1992 Season?

Here is a pretend Episode Guide I made up

6-1 "Here's My Story": Deacon Frye tells his new Grandson Ernie, about his past, how he lost his wife, and how Thelma met and eventually got the Reverend to marry her. (FLASHBACK EPISODE)

6-2 "Sister, Sister": Cassietta returns from a trip that she took around the world which she began a year ago. She returns a changed woman, with a European flair for men, but it is up to Amelia to bring her back to her normal old self again, when Casietta goes overboard, attacking every man she sees with open arms and lips.

6-3 "Clarences Swang Song": Clarence auditions to become a teen rapper, but is rejected in the end. He then thinks about suicide, but the Deacon arrives on time to see what he is up to and talks him out of it.

6-4 "Bring Back My Baby To Me": When Reuben and Thelma go to the store, they have carriages with the same items as another woman does, who has her baby dressed in the same clothes as baby Ernie. The babies are switched, and Thelma and Reuben go hystericol, but in the end, the babies are switched back.

6-5 "Old Man Rolly": Rolly turns 95 years old, and everyone throws him a surprise party. While getting ready for the party, everyone remembers Rolly's finest moments. (This is a Flashback Episode).

6-6 "Clarence...The So Crimed": Clarence goes back to his old habbits and is arrested. In the end, Clarence finds out that his old friends are being sent to a house for teen criminals, and the Deacon is happy he will never have to mess with them again.

6-7 "The Day Care Center": Thelma has a great idea to get money, work, and take care of little Ernie during the day. She wants to work at a day care center. However, she wants to have her own, which the Deacon has to give big bucks towards.

6-8 "The Fire Pt I": Thelma accidently leaves the stove on in the kitchen, and the house catches fire. The Deacon is ravished by what has happened, and cant believe this. They then decide to clash at the Hetibrink's while the house is being re-modeled, much to their unawareness that the sisters are really at it this time, fighting over who will win miss Philly of the Year, who are both after the title..

6-9 "The Fire Pt II": The Deacon and family have to get used to the constant squabbling which continues day in and day out. In the end, the pagent goes on, and the Deacon makes the sisters make up. The Deacon contacts a repair man for the job to be done in his house.l He is planning on a major renovation. In the end, Cassietta is given the award, and she gives it over to her sister, which is like how they mostly usually end arguments, by saying the other one deserves it or is right about something.

6-10 "This New House": Deacon's house is finally renovated, and looks very different and better than ever. However, Thelma misses the old way the house used to look, and the family and friends, at a housewaring party, remember many things that went on there. (This is a Flashback Episode).

6-11 "Cassietta's New Love": Cassietta dates Ron, a new parishier at the church, who decides to join the church board, and go steady with her.

6-12 "Amelia Alone": Amelia is jealous of all the time Cassietta is spending with Ron. She cries herself to sleep every night because she knows she will be old and grey in a few years and Cassietta with be old but married. In the end, Amelia meets Ron's brother Howard, who is new in town, and he asks her to dinner, which she responds yes to, and all is fine.

6-13 "Is The Love Lost Pt I": Reuben and Thelma quarrel over what outfit the baby should wear to his grandmother's house. In the end, the two decide to separate, because this has been going on for the past month, and the two need time alone to cool off. However, Reuben insists this, as Thelma sadly looks at him and asks him if he thinks the marriage is over, but he walks out.

6-14 "Is The Love Lost Pt II": Deacon gets the two back together, after getting them together in a locked room and forcing them to make up. After a while of more squabbling with each other, they finally know they were meant to be, and they kiss and make up.

6-15 "Tis The Season To Be Rolly Pt I": Rolly, during practice for the '91 christmas pagent, falls ill, and is hospitalized. Everyone thinks he is fine, but the doctors say that he had a mini stroke. He is in his room and is fine and recovering, and family and friends wait outside. In the end, when the Deacon asks to see him, there is a call on the intercom that there is a code Blue in room 103..Rolly's room.

6-16 "Tis' The Season To Be Rolly": Everyone worries and thinks about Rolly, and hopes he is ok. In the end, it was the patient in the bed beside him who the coed blue was for. Rolly is fine, returns to the church, and everyone puts on the '91 christmas pagent.

6-17 "Questions And Answers": Cassietta and Amelia are proposed to by Ron and Howard, and they both accept. The two are married in a double wedding.

6-18 "Honeymoon In Vegas Pt I": Cassietta and Amelia both go off on their own honeymoons, but forget to tell where the other is going. Coincidentally, the two end up on the same floor, room next to room at a hotel in Vegas. Amelia begins her gambling again, and knows she must stop, but is given a big bribe in the end to risk it all when she has 100,000. She knows she wants hapiness, and money may buy it for her.

6-19 "Honeymoon In Vegas Pt II": Amelia decides to gamble and wins the money and stops. She then has the guilt of what she did and hides it from Cassietta. Cassietta then finds out what happened and the two hug. Amelia vows never to gamble again, and will never go to Vegas either again. Amelia says she has lost 100,000. Cassietta is mad that she went back on her promise. In the end, Amelia slips an envelope under Cassietta's door...it is 100,000, and a note saying we split everything. We are sisters and besides you deserved it.

6-20 "Shine Down The Lights Pt I": In The shows Series Finale, Amelia and Cassietta return home from their honeymoon with their husbands; The Deacon is extatic that his grandson Ernie, at the age of one, has said his first word "Money", which he knows he will take after him in life; Clarence goes after a job again in singing and this time gets it; Rolly has a heart attack as everyone is all excited to all the great things that are going on.

6-21 "Shine Down The Lights Pt II": Rolly goes into cardiac arrest at the hospital. Everyone begins to feel sad after all the luck they had. Deacon says that no matter what happens, if Rolly lives or dies, he wanted everyone to be happy and move on like nothing happened. In the end, the doctors say that Rolly died, and everyone cries, but they all know he wanted everyone to be happy and move on as if nothing happened. At the Mass, the day of his funeral, everyone is sad, but they remember what has happened, and how Rolly didnt want them to be sad. The Choir gets on stage and dedicates the song "Shine Down The Lights" in memory of Rolly, who always loved a good time.

I just read through these shows...I love the fact the the Hetebrink Sisters found the men of their dreams to marry. I also love that you brought Casietta back. The sisters played well off of each other's comedic mannerisms.

I would not have wanted to kill off Rolly--he's my favorite next to Rev. Gregory and reminds me a lot of my Grandfather (who is still with me and as alert as ever at age 91). I realize through it could have been an "out" for Jester Hairston as he was getting along in age even during the original run of "Amen."

The plots are very funny and sound just like what would have happened--especially the Hetebrink Sisters' Honeymoon(s).

I like both of the flashback episodes too...I am sure Deacon Frye would narrate every event wonderfully.

"The Fire" episodes remind me of what was written into the show when Thelma & Reuben were newlyweds and Thelma's cooking burned up their apartment and they ended up living with the Deacon.

I also remember Amelia's gambling problem and how the Deacon had to win back what she lost in another actual episode. By the way, $50,000.00 would have been a great dowry for each of them to tuck away!

I think that out of both sisters, Amelia was the more dominant one. I think that on the show as well, as for who gets more lines/episodes dedicated to her. I dont know if Cassietta had any episode of her own, which involved herself in an issue. I do know that they were always together, and usually bickeed most of the time, but I think Amelia was more outgoing.

When Cassietta wasnt on the show anymore, I thought they just got rid of her character since it was going nowhere. I think it was kind of dull, but Amelia had a lot more lines and stuff. They should have worked more with Cassietta and given her a storyline or a few episodes of her own, instead of the two sisters competing most of the time for something.
