I've addressed this before (https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=388308) in regards to whether or not it was truly plausible for a woman of Terri's presumed status to need a roommate or two.

I never thought about this until very recently, but I wonder where exactly Terri lived prior to meeting Jack and Janet. It's obvious that this was the first time that Terri ever met Janet since at the hospital, the first thing that Terri asks Janet is if Jack is her husband.

It's probably safe to first assume that Terri was still living with her family at the time.

They were in a rush to get the new roommate moved in. Same happened with Jolene on Alice, she was pretty much hired on the spot and in the next episode acted as if she'd been there forever.... I always wondered what about her HOME, furniture, belongings, etc.....

There might be a practical need of a nurse (given the hours worked at a hospital) sharing an apartment. Some may have a psychological need to return to an occupied apartment if returning from a graveyard shift. While it wouldn't be a financial need, it may be comforting to know that people you live with are "home" while you are at work doing a double shift. Just a thought.
