I guess they couldn't write her in. It was pretty much a direct copy of the 1967 Arrival of Barnabas storyline. They just took some people that came in after that storyline to replace the ones that had left the show. Like they replaced Joel Crothers' Joe Haskell character with Roger Davis' Jeff Clark and added in the character of Tom Jennings as a boyfriend of Carolyn. It wasn't a direct copy of the storylien from the show, but it was pretty close. So they probably just couldn't think of a good character for Lara for HODS.

I know what HODS is about but what is Night of Dark Shadows about? I hope I like these movies. For me it comes on at 12 AM on Friday. I am going to put my VCR on timer. Thank you again for letting me know.

NODS is about a couple (Quentin and Tracy Collins) arriving at Collinwood. Carlotta Drake is the housekeeper of Collinwood. Quentin finds out he's a reincarnation of Charles Collins who lived in the early 1800s and that the ghost of a witch that Charles had an affair with wants him to live with her for all eternity. The movie was originally going to be 150 minutes long, but MGM at the last minute ordered that the movie be cut down. Dan Curtis trimmed it down to 127 minutes, a version which still made sense that just had insignificant scenes cut out. MGM was still not happy and Dan Curtis and Sam Hall (one of the writers and Grayson Hall's husband) to cut it down to 97 minutes. At times the movie makes no sense at all because a important scene is cut out. The 127 minute version of the film was discovered in 1999, with some audio missing. Dan Curtis Productions and Darren Gross (who found the long version) are trying to get the surviving actors to do the missing lines and have a person come in to immitate Grayson Hall's voice and then release it on VHS and DVD. Unfortunatly, Warner Bros (which now owns the films) does not want to release the film again since it doesn't sell as well as House of Dark Shadows.

I'd say NODS. Mainly because HODS bores me because I've seen it on the show before. NODS has more twists and turns, but it doesn't make much sense at some points in the film.

My next question, , is does Turner Classic Movies usually air the DS movies around Halloween? Sorry for bugging you. :D

Sean Snow, did you know Barnabas died in the movie? How could you say it was boring to you, I loved it, I can't stop watching it. I think HODS is way better, also I recorded NODS and it turned out to be 93 minutes. So they must have cut some stuff out, and I didn't like the writing at the end saying what happen to Quentin & Tracy. Also I thought Quentin married a lady named Beth. Isn't that whats going on in the show right now?

I messed up on the time, I think it's 93.5 minutes or around that. I saw a 75 minute version of HODS, maybe that's why I don't like it as much. The NODS Quentin and the rest are different from everyone on the show. "Night of Dark Shadows" pretty much takes place after "House of Dark Shadows" (they mentioned Mrs. Stoddard dying in the first few minutes of it) and Quentin inheritied it. It's pretty much in another dimension from the TV Show along with HODS, maybe even in another dimension then HODS. I just thought NODS built up more suspense over the course of the movie.

I just hated that in HODS Roger, Carolyn, and Julia died in the movie. That was just stupid to kill main characters off. Its like making a movie on a sitcom and having all of the characters die. You should either try to rent or buy the movie HODS. The movie turned out to be 97 minutes like you said. I never knew Jonathan Frid could play Barnabas so great and evil. The only thing that bugged me about the movie is Thayer David. He gets on my nerves!!

Yeah, one thing I don't like about HODS is all the gore in it. DS never showed all that blood, maybe that's one of the reasons I like NODS better because it resembles it in the way that neither used much blood. I only read about what happened in the beginning of the movie, so I was surprised when Julia, Roger, and Professor Stokes died. Some fans think that HODS might've actually helped kill DS: Parents taking their children to see the movie may have thought the TV show was just as bloody and banned them from watching it, even tho this has never been proven. I've tried to find both HODS and NODS in video renting places around here, none of them have it. I'm gonna get it off Amazon sometime this year hopefully.

Oh, and my least favorite thinga bout HODS is that:

Jeff didn't die! :(

Yeah thats what is weird. Fans are used to seeing him with Vicki why did they decide to put him with Maggie in the movie? She already had a boyfriend Joe. Also they had 2 different last names for Todd, first it was Blake then at the end on the closing credits it was Todd Jennings.

They put her with Roger Davis because Dan Curtis only wanted people who were currently on the show. That's also why Alexandra Moltke and Joel Crothers did not reprise their roles (though they probably wouldn't have done it if they had been asked). Joel was doing The Secret Storm at the time. Joel, IMO, was waaaaaaaaaaayyyyy better then Roger Davis at acting. In Kathryn Leigh Scott's HODS diary, she mentions that if they make Roger Davis her boyfriend on Dark Shadows, she would eat cookies until she ballooned up as revenge! Yep, they messed up with the names. They also mispelled Clair in hte credits of NODS. They spelled it with an E at the end, even though the script had her down as 'Clair'
