View Full Version : Is it just me or does Ginger have a crush on the proffessor?
Spider-Dan 09-25-2002, 04:40 PM This might sound a little silly but I think Scwarts was trying to get acrose some kind of romance bettween the professor and Ginger. Heres the facts: 1. when professor had a crush on ericka tiffiny smith Ginger taught the professor to kiss. 2. when the three bachelors had to charm mary anne Ginnger took the Proffesor under her wing. 3.In Castaway Pictures Presents Ginger kissed the proffessor as a thankyou even though at no part in the film did the proffessor do anything to warrent having to hold his breath that long 4. when the movie played ginger had a strange smile on her face (well at least ive heard in lookin for that ep in my collection now. Now what do 1,2,3, and 4 add up 2? that's right, 10!
JWood201 09-25-2002, 05:37 PM Oh, she so did. If you read the transcript for 'Goodbye Island' on gilligansisle.com you'd see some subtext in that area. lol.
Schwartz, at least from what I've heard, had always been an advocator of the Ginger/Professor, as well as the Gilligan/Mary Ann, thing and, frankly, he is a brilliant man. lol. I forget where I heard this, but all the evidence supports that Schwartz was one for the romance. Too bad the censors were so strict in the 60s.
Julie the GI girl 09-26-2002, 03:50 PM no, it most certainly is NOT just you!!! they totally should have wound up together. why else was she always so willing to help him with his experiments? why else did she seem to enjoy giving him "love lessons"? it's so clear. and if you ask me....he liked her too. if you look very closely during their kissing scene in the movie.....you will see that it is NOT ginger who takes over! she just leaned in and kissed him......HE was the one who threw his arms around her and pulled her closer. and why does he always go to her for help? he asks her to help with experiments, he goes to her with his erika tiffany smith problem, he's always walking around with her. oh it's there....it's so there. ;)
ok...funny story i just have to tell. my friend was over at my house and we were watching some of the GI episodes that i had taped. we watched the movie one....and she was all like "whoa....that was a KISS." so then the episode after that was the one where they think mr. howell is broke and they go to find him.....and the professor and ginger are told to "go search in the caves." my friend said "oh, is that what they're calling it nowdays?" and laughed. i about busted a gut. yeeeaahhhhh....goin' to "search in the caves" uh-huh!
you know though....if they had got together on the show....it might have taken away from it somehow. as much as i would've loved to see that.....a lot of shows have pretty much ended after the characters get together. they say that i dream of jeannie died soon after they got married. and it's happened to other shows. part of the reason people watch is to see the tension building and to ask "when are they going to be together?" once it happens.....there's nothing exciting holding viewers to the show. i think though that if GI had gone on for a few more seasons that there would have eventually been romances between the professor and ginger and gilligan and mary ann. the first season especially implied that that was going to happen....but it became less apparent in the second and third seasons.
and about those darn censors......i'd like to know why the professor can tell ginger to "act sexier" toward the gorilla....but mary ann can't show her navel. sheesh! that's actually kind of funny.
JWood201 09-26-2002, 04:09 PM Exactly, so many shows lost their charm after main characters got together. I totally agree that there was a lot more of those instances w/ the four of them in the first season than in later seasons. I think maybe it's because since the network didn't think the show would last long, the writers kinda believed it too and put that stuff in. When they saw the good ratings, maybe they got smart and realized that that kind of thing kills a show and cut back a little since it was being renewed. or something... I think I just confused myself, but do you get what I'm trying to say? LOL.
Shows that died after characters got together: I Dream of Jeannie, The Nanny, Frasier (is SO going downhill after the whole Niles/Daphne thing. Half of the comedy was his feelings about her and her obliviousness.), etc...
Spider-Dan 09-26-2002, 10:13 PM Sure but it lots of shows have romances that only last one episode and then they break up. Like Even Stevens, twice.
JWood201 09-26-2002, 10:26 PM Well, yeah, but it's not *serious* and doesn't effect the total fabric of the show. (Wow, that sounded so authoritative...'fabric' lol)
Julie the GI girl 09-30-2002, 05:15 PM WHY IS THIS STUFF CUT OUT?????!!!!!!! WHY!!!????
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The professor is working on another new nail formula by the fire, as Ginger walks up behind him.
GINGER
How's it going professor?
The professor, unaccustomed to being around
beautiful women, becomes fluster and starts to
shake.
SLOW ZOOM IN WITH PROFESSOR FOR CLOSE UP SHOT
PROFESSOR
Oh! Oh well
well I'll have to a
I'll
have to wait till it, cools before I,
try it.
He walks over to the rock and sets the hot nail
down.
GINGER
Gee I think it's amazing how you do all those experiments with such shaky hands!
PROFESSOR
Well they weren't shaky until a second ago.
GINGER
Oh, maybe it's the heat or something.
The professor looks at Ginger with that, you
don't have a clue look.
PROFESSOR
Yeah.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PROFESSOR (O.S.)
Ginger!
GINGER
In here professor!
The professor walks on camera and immediately
walks over to Ginger.
GINGER
Remember this dress I made it from
The professor grabs her and buries his nose into
her neck as though he's being passionate.
ZOOM IN FOR EXTREME CLOSE UP OF PROFESSOR AND GINGER
PROFESSOR
Ginger I've got to sniff your perfume.
Ginger is delightfully shocked.
GINGER
Oh professor! On the day we're leaving?
PROFESSOR
Have you got any more of this?
GINGER
Professor I think you've had enough.
PROFESSOR
I haven't got time to explain, but where
do you keep your perfume?
GINGER
Behind my ears, can't you tell?
PROFESSOR
No no no no I mean the bottle, where do
you keep the bottle?
CUT TO: CLOSE UP OF PROFESSOR AND GINGER
GINGER
Why in my make-up case.
The professor makes his way to her case and grabs
the perfume. He immediately walks off camera
leaving Ginger to wonder what happened.
GINGER
Well that sales girl was wrong. That
perfume doesn't make men wild. It drives
them absolutely batty!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHY DO THEY CUT OUT ALL THE GOOD PARTS!!!!?????
stupid tv. i would love to see those scenes.
JWood201 09-30-2002, 07:38 PM Yeah me too...stoopid TV channels... Hopefully, with the current trend of TV shows on DVD, we'll get unedited episodes on DVD soon. I think you can go to tvshowsondvd.com and vote for GI to be put on DVD.
Speaking of editing things out, I noticed this afternoon on 'V For Vitamins' stuff I've never noticed before...
---------------------
MARY ANN
I'll never get to see Kansas again...
GILLIGAN
Or California, or North Carolina, or North - Nebraska, or North Dakota...
((I'm sitting there going, "Wait...North Nebraska?" LOL))
Later...
GINGER
Do I look like I have a Vitamin C deficiency?!
PROFESSOR
Ginger, you don't look like you have a deficiency of anything.
GINGER
Thank you, Professor.
PROFESSOR
But you do. (( ))
--------------------
I totally missed those last time! I'm convinced TV Land edits the episodes differently each time they air them. LOL. Because I've noticed things that I didn't remember from previous TV Land airings...
We'll just wait and see if they edit out the Gilligan/Mary Ann scene in 'Mr. and Mrs.???' tonite at 9.... :D
Julie the GI girl 09-30-2002, 08:08 PM LOL! i'm pretty sure that scene was included the last time it was on.....i think i remember it.
watch and see.....as soon as i get all the episodes taped and i have the whole collection.....they'll come out with all three seasons on dvd. just watch.
JWood201 09-30-2002, 10:04 PM Yeah, I just got them all (except for, like, 3) on tape. But it'll be so worth it 'cause the DVDs would be unedited. Yay!
Julie the GI girl 10-16-2002, 05:11 PM more evidence! today on "wrongway feldman"......she was so totally flirting with him!!!! i don't know how i missed it before....but i've only seen that episode once. the part when they're cleaning off the plane and stuff.....oh yeah. she's flirting. :)
JWood201 10-16-2002, 06:35 PM oh, she TOTALLY was! LOL. She kept tickling him with those leaves. hehe. **falls over during a giggle fit**
Julie the GI girl 10-16-2002, 10:03 PM *joins in the giggle fit*
is it pathetic that i have nothing better to do than watch old tv shows and laugh hysterically when i see evidence of flirting? is that pathetic? NAH!!!!
JWood201 10-16-2002, 10:35 PM Nah, totally not-pathetic. I don't find a sitcom amusing (there are a few exceptions) unless I have an "un-couple" to root for. It's like my own personal little sporting event. LOL.
I'm such a "shipper" -- it's sick.
Julie the GI girl 10-17-2002, 03:37 PM oh my gosh....i'm exactly like that too! i love shows where there's a couple that doesn't seem like they'll get together...but it kinda does...and the whole time i'm hoping they will. i LOVE watching shows like that! and i thought i was the only one....
JWood201 10-17-2002, 05:18 PM LOL. On the flip side of that, I always kinda hope that they *won't* UNLESS it's the final episode...b/c it always ruins the show.
buddy love 10-17-2002, 10:01 PM Yes I think Ginger did have a crush on the Professor and Mary Ann had a big crush on Gilligan (as he did on her). Howell had Lovey, and the poor Skipper had nobody...I think I'm going to cry.
JWood201 10-17-2002, 10:10 PM Aww, poor Skip. In "St. Gilligan and the Dragon," after the second "monster," when all the girls run to their respective guy, for a split second the Skipper kinda looks around and realizes that no one's hiding behind him. It's so sad! **tear** LOL.
Yay, another person who agrees w/ me that MA was totally crushing on Gil! (And that Gil was totally crushing on her. lol).
I think my Avatar says it all.
<----- Lookit those looks they're giving each other. LOL. **gets all warm and fuzzy inside**
Okay, I'm done now. :D
Julie the GI girl 10-18-2002, 03:40 PM awwww!!!! that is just the CUTEST picture!!! :)
anyone who doesn't believe that mary ann had a crush on gilligan is just blind. even dawn herself said that it was crazy!!! she said mary ann would go after the professor....but not gilligan. HELLO???!!! she WAS mary ann....did she not listen to what she was saying and how she was acting?? how many freaking times did she call him sweet??? sheesh! there was so totally a crush there.
the most recently seen little bit of evidence:
episode 3....the "voodoo" one....when gilligan is telling about how somehow he fought the monster in the supply hut....she says something like "oh ginger, isn't he great?" (i dont' remember the exact words....yell at me if you wish). and just the way she LOOKS at him. tell me there isn't something there! just try! lol...also notice the way ginger is looking at the professor when he says about how he's a science teacher and he doesn't believe in voodoo....she has this little smile....i swear it! personally...i think it's because his shirt is open. that's why i was staring at him. :D
JWood201 10-18-2002, 05:35 PM She says: **ahem** "Oh, Ginger, isn't he MARVELOUS?!" all dreamily-like.
**falls over and dies**
He was "wonderful" like 30 times throughout the course of the series...twice in one episode! LOL.
Yeah, I don't understand Dawn's vision there at all. LOL. She obviously wasn't paying attention during shooting. She only said the Prof thing b/c she thought Russ was a hunk. Swear to God! It's in the TV Guide Truth Behind the Sitcoms special. I about fell over. I did...
Julie the GI girl 10-19-2002, 04:51 PM well ok....i guess i can't blame her for that.....hee hee! russ really was quite a hunk! *big sigh* :D
solidchristian_88 11-17-2002, 02:23 AM I'm a Professor/Mary-Anne Shipper myself.
This is, although I have to agree with you about so many things that you've said, The Professor and Mary-Anne just had this special chemestry that you didn't see anywhere else on the island.
For instance...when they were trying to chear Mary-Anne up when they thought her boyfriend had married somene else. When the idea was first brought up...Gilligan said that he "Had no idea about stuff like that" The Skipper said that he'd "been acting like her big brother and couldn't start acting like her boyfriend now." However, when the Professor protested it, he simplly said "I have never shown any romantic intrest in Mary-Anne and am not about to start now."
In the reverse, however. On the eposode when Gilligan found that gym that was suppose to grant three wishes, and the professor didn't beleave in it so he didn't get involved...who was the first person to stay with him? Mary-Anne. She looked at him and said "Oh! I can't let the professor stay here all by himself." and she races over to her. You can tell that although the Professor is upset with her for her superstition, he is grateful that she'd give up what she thinks is her shot at getting off the Island for him.
On the mutial front. I can't specify one scene, but often when the Professor and Mary-Anne talk, they often don't need to even finish a sentence or thought. The Professor will say something, Mary-Anne will say something else, and they hold the rest of their conversation through facial expressions.
Now, I don't deny that there is something there between the Professor and Ginger, as well as something between Gilligan and Mary-Anne. But, in my oppion...The Professor and Mary-Anne were ment for eachother and Ginger and Gilligan are just roadblocks. (Sorry, I've been watching too much Lois and Clark with all that soulmates stuff)
JWood201 11-17-2002, 12:42 PM Bah.
I really need to finish that chart of MA/Gil subtext and post it on my site.
Oh, yes, I've been documenting this for some time....
Julie the GI girl 11-17-2002, 06:59 PM i will definitely agree with some of that. but i think that the professor and mary ann had more of a brother/sister type of relationship. i mean....he was always looking out for her like a big brother would...and she usually supported his ideas....but there was nothing beyond that really. some people site the beauty contest episode as evidence. but i say it's not. i mean....the prof is a nice guy. mary ann is his friend. what was he supposed to do? of course they already know that ginger is beautiful, and mrs. howell has class....the professor wasn't going to just sit there and let nobody speak up for mary ann. (plus they had to have gilligan be the undecided one). but he even said "i have never shown the slightest bit of romantic interest in mary ann!" mary ann said it best though "the professor and i have nothing in common." she totally had a crush on gilligan.
as far as the professor and ginger.....you can just see it. it's hard to explain. but just little things they say to each other... you can tell that there's something there. and they're always together. ginger is always assisting him with experiments.....he goes to her with problems.....oh yeah. it's there.
JWood201 11-17-2002, 07:40 PM Ah, yes, Julie, the Prof/Gin subtext. LOL. I never really looked for it until I started talking to you and, yep, THERE IT IS! It really is quite abundant, as is the MA/Gil.
I too never understood the whole "Look for MAP stuff in the Beauty contest ep!" Whatever. I've already posted all my feelings on this subject and I'm just too lazy to do it again. :)
I agree w/ everything Julie said though....
