The office of the Medical Examiners in the state of Maryland has come to the conclusion that there is nothing medical in the investigation done by Montgomery County Police Department that would sustain a ruling of suicide in my brother’s death. This is another piece of documentation and information that goes to show that the Montgomery County Police Department used inaccurate information and manipulation to classify my brother’s death a suicide.
This is also another piece of the puzzle that shows that someone possibly got away with murder in #MontgomeryCounty with the help of the Montgomery County Police Department back in 1986.
This is a victory for my family and for my mom in particular.
This is also a notification, alert, and an alarm for those that still hold the secrets as to what exactly happened to Keith. You still got time to fix the karma that you carry from whatever your participation was in the death of my brother, and you also have time to repent and come forward and tell the story about how my brother was strung up on that tree.

freakbook 03-26-2024, 10:10 PM Wow, congratulations Sherri! Now hopefully the people involved in this will be identified and you and your family get closure
While not naming names what do you think happened to your brother?

I am happy that you have finally received a victory in the death of your brother Keith.
Keith's case is one that has stuck with me for many years. It has always been my belief that Keith was indeed murdered.
I think the people who put him in that tree were not trying to make it look like a racial hanging but simply a suicide. I think the fact he was a black man that was hung brought the case more attention than they anticipated.
Also due to there being no visible trauma to the body I think Keith's death may have been accidental and the people he was with panicked. I do think one of them had a relative in the police department that helped them cover this up.
Keith could have possibly been experimenting with drugs with some of his friends and overdosed and the people with him panicked.
He also could have been killed out of jealousy by one of his "friends". Keith had a nice car and got attention from girls and was college bound.
I remember in the segment there was a group of black youth looking for Keith, but I don't think the person(s) who killed Keith were black at all. They would have known better than to hang him in a tree due to optics. If they truly wanted this to look like a suicide they wouldn't have put him in a tree in my opinion.
Had those guys found Keith and wanted him dead they likely would have beat him or shot him. I don't think Keith was strangled to death. Some other means were used to kill him.
Whoever covered up Keith's death and or killed him was in his circle of friends. I hate to say this but it is never a good idea for a young black man to be the only minority in his group of friends because things like this happen often. The person who comes up missing or gets injured or hurt is always the minority. I had friends at work invite me on a boat ride and I straight up asked if I was going to be the only black person. They said yes and I said no thank you.
I have often joked with my white friends that if they invite me somewhere and I am the only minority I am leaving. I'm not comfortable in a social setting being the only minority. I'm not being racist but I have heard of way too many instances of racially motivated crimes in situations like this. Honestly I believe that was Keith's biggest mistake thinking he could co-exist in that social group as the only minority. It never ends well.

It's a UPS Store, so she's safe in that regard.
Anyway, this is great news, it's unfortunate it took so long despite being really obvious based just on the 911 call and then the events that followed that something was being covered up by these people Keith knew. Let's hope something more comes of it, and the sooner, the better!
comicbookwriter 04-09-2024, 11:12 PM I have always hoped that someone would be held accountable for that horrible crime. Kudos and respect for never letting this fall to the wayside. We're here for support if ever you need it.

Ok thanks for the clarity.
Keith's case is one that has stuck with me since the early 90s when I was a kid and used to watch Unsolved with my grandparents on Friday nights when I would spend the weekend with them.
I have always kind of felt Keith's death wasn't as calculated and planned as it has been portrayed.
I personally believe Keith's "murder" was an accident. I also think the people who put him in that tree were people he considered friends.
I think the cops didn't want the publicity of a hanging of a black man in that community so they quickly deemed it a suicide and sent him to the funeral home to try to keep things quiet.
There are people alive who know exactly what happened to Keith but they are never going to talk. Whoever sent Keith's mother those photos probably risked their job to do it. They wanted her to know Keith didn't kill himself.
What I have always found odd about Keith's case is that his father has never once spoken up. The little I could find about Keith and Sherri's dad is that he and Keith had a disagreement over Keith's car and he and Keith had some type of altercation when Keith was visiting. He apparently tried to get Keith committed. He also went on record saying he believed Keith killed himself.
I would bet my life Keith did not kill himself. Someone covered his death up and did a horrible job.
If it was the group of black kids that were so called looking for him they would have known better than to hang him because they know what that represents.
I could easily see a group of white kids hanging Keith in a tree not really thinking of the racial component of such an act.
Keith probably OD'd and the friends freaked out.
I'm glad Sherri was able to get the death certificate changed but I don't think she will ever get closure about Keith because the people who knew what happened to him do not want any of the details to resurface.
The fact there was no damage to Keith's body has drawn me to the conclusion it was indeed an accidental death probably due to drug use. Keith was probably experimenting and took too much.
I really hurt bad for Mary Couey all she wanted was to know what happened to her boy.
Keith's death has so many similarities with Kurt Sova's case.
mwcarolina 04-13-2024, 05:35 PM good!!! they need to properly investigate this. It's likely too late to catch the man or men who did this, but at least we can finally get the answers we need. this was SUCH a coverup

There are two possibilities that I can think of.
1. that he was an informant for the police department,
2. It was a prank gone bad and the people (the fake friends)involved had connections within them Montgomery county Police Department.
dynoguy88 04-14-2024, 09:25 PM Keith's death has so many similarities with Kurt Sova's case.
I have always had that feeling as well. That like Kurt Sova, Keith was at a party or some get-together, there was some accidental overdose or something of that nature, fellow patrons/friends at the party panicked and put the body elsewhere. But in both instances, the police were either too incompetent or didn't care enough to see what was actually in front of them.
I just never liked how much info was lacking in Keith's story on UM in regards to his actions before his body was found. With Kurt Sova, we had a very detailed timeline from the moment he left home to the very end where his body was discovered in the ravine. With Keith's story, we are not told anything about when he was last seen, who he was last with, where he was heading, what his plans were, any confirmed witness sightings before the discovery of the body, nothing. That always frustrated me. I don't think we would have ever learned what little we know if it weren't for Sherri.

Why do you think Kurt was just dumped and Keith was placed in that elaborately fake suicide scene?
There was no trauma to Keith's body so this has always made me doubt he was murdered per say. However, the cover up does disturb me. The pictures being placed on Mary's doorstep years after Keith's death was someone trying to help Keith's family. They wanted them to know Keith's death was definitely not suicide.
Why would they change Keith's clothing? What was the significance of changing him into clothing that wasn't even his? Perhaps he through up all over his actual clothing?
Kurt's death always seemed like a cut and dry OD and dump.
Keith's death leaves so many unanswered questions and the cover up does make it seem like murder. However; its very rare for someone to be murdered without trauma to the body of any kind.
I don't know what Keith was into but he seemed to be a smart and good looking guy with a nice car and college bound---perhaps someone was jealous? Maybe he indeed was murdered (poisoned).
One thing I know for sure is when the cops happened upon the scene they definitely did NOT want the community thinking this young black man had been hung. That is why they botched the investigation and pushed so hard for it to be a suicide. They didn't want that kind of press with the race issue.
I still believe the people who put Keith in that tree in that way were so busy trying to make it look like a suicide they had no idea they were actually making it look like a hanging which brought the case even more attention. It was an amateur move.
keith warren 10-22-2024, 09:49 AM This is a fair and respectful argument, however there are few things to consider:
1.If Keith did kill himself and that was what the situation was supposed to look like then why did Detective Beasley destroy every piece of physical evidence and information that could possibly be used by an unbiased individual to come back and look into this case.
2. Let's talk about the chemicals in Keith system,... if in fact Keith did drink industrialized cleaning agents to kill himself why not just leave his body where he drank the substances?
3. Let's talk about the change of clothing,... if in fact Keith did kill himself explain away why he would change his clothes to kill himself? Did he want to be casket sharp?
4. Let's talk about Detective Beasley cutting the tree down after the case was closed and Keith was buried.. what was the purpose?
5. Lets talk about how Detective Beasley lost the noose,.. how do you lose evidence on a clear cut case of suicide/

I wish you had responded to my first response on here; this particular post you responded to I was referencing the similarities between Keith and Kurt's deaths. You will see I am one of the people who don't believe Keith's death was a suicide at all. In fact I am positive based on the evidence.
Leaves on your brother's back have always bothered me. I think there may have been vomit on his original clothes and shoes which is why the was changed into clothes and shoes that were not his own and put in that tree for someone to find.
I believe the police helped someone cover this death up possibly a relative who phoned them in a panic. It happens all the time. It's probably why there was a rush to get Keith's body embalmed and ready for burial. Someone with power didn't want an autopsy done prior to embalming so they can blame any chemicals on the funeral process.
Keith being an informant for the police is a possibility but usually those deaths are very violent. They often torture, shoot and or stab people who are snitches. I don't think this was the case with Keith.
I think the answer to Keith's death resides within that group of white "friends" he was hanging with. They know exactly what happened to him.
I feel like Keith was either poisoned or overdosed on drugs. Where I am from I have seen a lot of situations where a black kid is hanging with a group of white friends and oddly the black kid always comes up missing or is dead. I can think of 3-4 instances of this from my neighborhood. I have always told my white friends don't invite me to any function where I am the only black person because I will leave.
Sherri I have always wanted to ask you a question, but I don't want to get cursed out. I will just go ahead and ask you though and if you don't feel comfortable responding I understand.
What was the relationship like with Keith and your dad? I recall there was information where he publicly was co-signing Keith's death as a suicide saying Keith was troubled and there may have been a psychiatric hold on Keith after a fight with dad. It was also stated they had fought over Keith's car as well. Why has your dad since remained silent and not be supportive over getting justice for Keith? The evidence we on the outside clearly leans towards Keith not committed suicide so it's interesting he didn't seem to think so.
keith warren 11-04-2025, 04:23 PM After nearly four decades of unanswered questions, my brother Keith Warren’s death has finally been reclassified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner from suicide to undetermined.
This moment represents more than a change in language — it marks a shift in truth, accountability, and acknowledgment that something was deeply wrong all those years ago. And now, as of last week, the Montgomery County Police Department has officially reopened Keith’s case. For the first time in 39 years, there is a renewed opportunity to uncover the truth that was long denied.
For my mother, who fought until her last breath to be heard, and for every family who has ever been silenced by the system meant to protect them, this is a step toward long-overdue justice.
The journey has been painful, but it has also revealed the power of persistence, faith, and community. Your prayers, your words of encouragement, and your unwavering belief have helped carry this fight forward when it felt impossible to keep going. For that, I thank you — deeply.
Though this reclassification and reopening bring validation, they do not bring closure. The fight for full transparency and accountability continues. Keith’s story is not just about our family — it’s about ensuring that truth is never buried, and that no family has to spend decades demanding what should have been given from the start: justice.
