Will you be in the path of the Total Solar Eclipse in the United States?

________________________________________________

The April 8, 2024 eclipse will be a total solar eclipse. During a total solar eclipse, the Moon moves between the Earth and Sun completely obscuring the Sun.

All of the United States will experience a partial solar eclipse.
An eclipse path sweeps across central Mexico,
parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky,
Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont,
New Hampshire, Maine and southern Canada.

During totality,
you may view the Sun without proper eye protection, such as solar glasses.
But during all other phases of the eclipse,
you should only look at the Sun when your eyes are protected.

Yes, and you need to make sure it's totality. And we all make sure we have our ISO compliant eye protection at partially blocked times.

The birds will roost and the squirrels will go where they go, then a short time later their little minds will wonder wow, feels like I just went to sleep.

The eclipse path will really hit central Indiana here.

I hadn’t heard that one. Apparently I’ve led a sheltered life of just listening to American Pie over and over :(

80% chance of seeing it in Maryland. But I'll probably be at work when it happens so I'll miss out.

Where I live (50 miles East of Columbus, Ohio) we will have 98%-99% coverage. Approximate time from 3:09 to 3:13 PM EDT duration.

They are even closing schools in our area, so people can travel with their kids, to see the "Totality" Solar Eclipse. :)

With our luck it will be cloudy or raining that day!

I know the eclipse can damage human eyes, which is why I will be closing my curtains completely the night before to keep out any outside light. Can cat eyes be damaged as well? My parents' house has a few windows and doors with partial or no coverings their cats like looking out. They obviously won't wear the eye protection that is available for humans.

If it can damage a human's eye sight it can definitely damage a cat's.

Verizon Business provides NASA with a network solution to allow for a live broadcast of solar eclipse.

April 05, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Verizon Business has partnered with NASA to provide a network solution that will allow for a live broadcast of the solar eclipse on April 8.

Verizon Business, with essential support from Leidos, provisioned 1GB E-Line service from the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland to the John Glenn Space Center.

This provisioning effort was accomplished in fewer than 30 days, which is key, as it has enabled NASA to thoroughly test video and broadcast applications in advance of the eclipse. (...)

(...)This connectivity will enable NASA to bring in multiple video feeds from across the United States, including telescope views and broadcast commentary, which are combined to deliver the broadcast to NASA viewers around the world. (...)

Not much going on with the solar eclipse here in Southern California. If I didn't know we were having one , I wouldn't know. Not even dark here at all!!

Oh I guess a little bit? I just opened the blinds . It's sunny but the sky is a little bit darker than usual. Kind of freaky!

I'm sorry -- you are on the "wrong side" of the country to see much!

Watch it on the web. It is cool....

WOW!
I just saw a plane high in the sky go by ---I hope they have "Solar" glasses

On the board :
MrCleveland (in Cleveland Ohio) had Totality

Here with me it was about 98-99% (Zanesville, Ohio)

It was a very weird, eerie feeling/looking outside.
We had bright sunlight and yet darkness at the same time.
It was so dark the streetlights came on.

My wife, daughter with several of our grandkids traveled
(about 60 miles west) to where
three more of our daughters and more grandkids
meet up with them to be in the path of "Totality!" :)

I really didn't get to see anything from where I was. Clouds blocked most of it.

It just got a little dark, like it gets when a storm is about to come, and it got cold.

You live in the "WRONG" part of the country to see "totality" just like Bonnie :( but you had plenty of places to see it listed on this board.

Also, you can watch this to see reaction from people as to what was seen in California. At about 6:44 minutes in, it's shown what was seen.

Southern Californians enjoy partial solar eclipse (7:14 long)

Where I am there was totality but it lasted for only about a minute or so. When the moment of totality came, it wasn't completely dark outside, there was still some daylight, it basically resembled the time of dusk where there is still a little daylight before the darkness of night sets in.
