I often wonder why they decide to call it a street, road, avenue, Blvd.,Lane, Place or Drive?

I guess Street, Ave and Blvd. are generally associated with major streets and the other ones smaller streets . and Road seems more in a rural area, but not always. :confused:

Blvd. sounds sort of fancy to me. Avenue sort of does too. I do think Road seems more rural. But I don't know why they choose one over the other really. They maybe just like variety.
