Jude Cormier, a former long-time member here, had been having health problems for awhile. He died Saturday night, survived by his mother, stepfather, and other family.

Sad news to hear. He was active for a little over 9 years from 2006 to 2015. He had put Retired as his User Title. I don't know why he left.

I might create an Eternal Member usergroup. I read a thread about what to do with user accounts for people who die.

I was up bright and early this morning. Around 4 am. Went to FB and that's the first thing I saw. I'm just in shock. Jude was such a good guy. He had so many health problems but it never seemed to get him down. R.I.P. my friend. :(

Damn! I hate to hear this. May I ask how you found out about his passing? I've been wondering what happened to him. I sent him several items over a decade ago to add to his collection.

I am friends with Karl on Facebook, a mutual friend on December 10, 2023 said he was in the hospital with pneumonia and a blood clot. Then on December 22 the mutual friend said he was better, but still on the mend.

Don’t worry. I know I’m not popular here, so I’m not here to stay; I just had it on my heart to say a few words about my dear buddy, Jude.

I knew Jude about 20 years, and at the beginning I was healthy and able-bodied. But as two chronically ill people, Jude and I became very close — especially in the past eight years. He was one of the best people I knew. He was sweet, kind, selfless and genuine, four traits we should all aspire to.

God, I wish I could be more like Jude.

Jude was always checking in on me to see how I was feeling, even while he, himself, was in a constant fight for his life, which should tell you how unrelentingly tough and incomprehensibly brave he was.

I don’t think Jude knew how much he was loved. He had his wonderful “Mama Jo” and a lot of close friends and family in Crowley. They all adored him, and so did his legions of friends and adopted family around the world.

The last few years were incredibly hard for Jude. He lost his independence and was hospitalized several times; a few of those times he died on operating table and was brought back.

Through it all, he remained Jude. He was thoughtful, caring, raw, and silly. I will treasure the goofy voice and video messages he sent me in Messenger. They are that much more special to me because he sent them in spite of the pain and the beating his poor body was enduring.

Seriously, what a great dude he was.

This last hospitalization? Deep down I knew it was bad and that we might lose him, but my heart just wouldn’t accept it. I operated under the blissful delusion that Jude would still be around tomorrow, next week, next year, next decade, so I never got to say goodbye.

But I take comfort in the fact that he knew I loved him because we would tell each other often how we felt about each other. (Don’t be afraid to tell your friends you love them fervently and frequently; you’ll be glad one day you did.)

I know I’m not special and that I’m far from alone in feeling this loss deeply. That makes me happy in a way, because again, it’s a testament to how loved Jude was.

So, Jude? So long, pal. Thank you for the friendship, for the love, for the joy and for the laughs. You know I don’t know if we go on after we die, but it puts a smile on my face to imagine you, wholly healthy and happy, reunited with your dad and your beloved brother, Evans.

I’m trying to figure out how to send you “Far Side” comics where you are. Until then, behave yourself up there. And say hi to Carol, Mike, Alice, Samantha and Endora, and have some late-night cheesecake with all four Golden Girls. And while you do, you will remain in all of our hearts.

Love,
Brad

That was a super sweet tribute, Brad. I didn't know Jude other than as a name on these forums but you really gave an insight as to what a phenomenal person he was. I'm truly sorry to hear that he went through so much.

And by the way, it IS good to see you here.
