I have never figured out why Procter And Gamble decided to go into TV producing and launched Procter And Gamble Productions? Because Procter And Gamble is the mastermind behind cleaning products like Tide and Mr. Clean and Dawn Dishwashing Liquid so I always thought it was strange that they would produce TV shows like soap operas. I am surprised that Procter And Gamble Productions is still surviving. Was Procter And Gamble Productions a second hobby for them to promote their products on TV and what was the first show that Procter And Gamble Productions produced in history?

I don't know any of these answers, but advertisers going back to radio used to sponsor whole programs. Since the programs were being used to advertise their products, the advertisers were careful about what was presented on the show. That would often take the form of the advertising agency assigning a person to monitor the production, but from what you've said it seems P&G had enough shows that it was efficient for them to be involved more directly.

P&G alone is probably responsible for the moniker "soap opera."

They decided to take a gamble on expanding to producing, proctoring what went on in their shows. :winkgrin

I think what Procter And Gamble had in mind when they decided to go into the TV business was they wanted to become famous in TV and that's why I think they founded Procter And Gamble Productions as a way to make themselves known at other things not just soaps and commercials for laundry detergent and household cleaners. I think they got inspiration for their first 80's logo from the WGBH Boston logo because I think they copied it and made it blue with a PGP logo and I'm surprised that WGBH Boston didn't accuse Procter And Gamble Productions of copying their logo. But I think that this marked the new trend of food and drink companies going into TV. Look at Coca-Cola with Embassy Television?
