View Full Version : CHCH Spring/Summer 2024
I might be wrong about this, but I think that this season might represent the longest interval between fall and spring that CHCH has used the same daytime schedule since it went retro in 2018. However, as March turns to April, there will finally be some changes coming. The first of these changes will happen in two weeks.
Like the song says, "The Love Boat" soon will be making another run at 1:00 pm starting next Tuesday March 19. The series will replace "I Dream Of Jeannie", which will be ending the day before, and "Hogan's Heroes". That show will move from 1:30 to 3:00 pm the next day and will replace "Silver Spoons" for a couple of months.
"Mad About You" will end one week later on March 28 as well as "The Dick Van Dyke Show" the week after that. Keep it here to find out what else is coming and going in the weeks ahead.

Dianne3 03-07-2024, 03:05 PM Actually, CHCH first went retro in the fall of 2017. It was not yet a 10-6pm retro lineup though.
It will almost be close to a calendar year since the Love Boat was yanked in early April 2023.
When I saw the commercials for the current remake of Dynasty, now we know why CHCH is showing the original Dynasty again.
As for Three's Company, I am seeing scenes (usually at the end of the episode) that I hadn't seen before even though I have seen reruns of TC so many times. The classic TV stations (which we usually pay extra for) were cutting scenes.
KatieAnn 03-07-2024, 10:53 PM Good to know about CHCH airing uncut episodes of Three's Company.
The shows that have been airing the last few months just aren't my cup of tea, and at this point I don't have much hope things will get better.
Always keeping an eye out for new editions to the schedule.
KatieAnn 03-14-2024, 05:33 PM Good news at last! (at least for me)
NewsRadio replaces Mad About You at 5:30pm, starting on Thursday March 28.
Great show that CHCH said would be on the fall schedule last year. It's finally being added to the schedule!!
DEH55 03-19-2024, 01:30 PM I am glad Silver Spoons and Mad about You will be gone. Couldn't stand either show. Once Suzanne Somers left Three's company it not the same for me. Not a fan of Priscilla Barnes. I wish they would get rid of Dynasty too.
Update: "The Dick Van Dyke Show" will be ending in two weeks and will be replaced by another outstanding series, "The Brady Bunch", beginning Tuesday, April 9 at 11:00 am after "Matlock" and before Danny Thomas.

The Modfather 05-15-2024, 09:10 AM Looks like The Odd Couple will begin airing next Wednesday after The Facts of Life finishes it's run. A welcome replacement! Glad to have The Odd Couple back on CHCH.
KatieAnn 05-15-2024, 09:31 AM That's good news - The Odd Couple is a funny show.
Looks like The Lucy Show is going to be replacing Hogan's Heroes at 3pm starting Tuesday May 28 and I believe that tomorrow we will see if CHCH will replace Matlock with another show or will just start Matlock from the beginning again.
CHCH loves Matlock. I have my guesses for what might replace it, but CHCH is unpredictable sometimes.
Thanks for the info. I very much appreciate it.
I think I'll try to take my own guesses as to what might replace Matlock in the morning. I'm going to go with either "The Andy Griffith Show" or "I Love Lucy" at 10:00 am and either "That Girl" or "The Partridge Family" (which would be perfect to show up before the Bradys) at 10:30 am. I'll check back in tomorrow and see how I did.
KatieAnn 05-15-2024, 10:46 PM Those are good guesses. I was thinking "I Love Lucy" and "The Andy Griffith Show." Or maybe "Green Acres" and "The Beverly Hillbillies." But "The Partridge Family" would be good before "The Brady Bunch."
If they replace "Matlock" with an hour long show - maybe "Charlie's Angels" or "Fantasy Island." "Bonanza" would be great.
I have just seen what will replace "Matlock" at 10:00 am and it seems very confusing to me so I will try to explain it as best as I can. On Thursday, May 30 (my birthday!), "The Dick Van Dyke Show" will return at 10:00 am, one hour earlier than when we last saw it around a month ago when it was replaced by "The Brady Bunch". At 10:30 am, CHCH will have...."The Lucy Show"???
That's right. After debuting a couple of days earlier in what you figure would be its regular 3:30 pm slot after "The Odd Couple" (a good choice), it will show up again at 10:30 am. You end up with back-to-back episodes 5 hours apart which is completely weird! To sum up, the new changes will look like this:
10:00 am Dick Van Dyke
10:30 Lucy Show
3:00 Odd Couple
3:30 Lucy Show
This was totally unexpected for me but at least Matlock is gone so that's great news!
KatieAnn 05-16-2024, 05:50 PM Matlock is not as bad as I used to think it was, and odds are it will be back before we know it, but it's good to have a break from it.
I would have bet that "I Love Lucy" would have made a return to the schedule at 10am, and I thought perhaps they'd move "The Lucy Show" to 10:30am for an hour of Lucy, and then put something else at 3pm, but another "Lucy Show" episode? It feels temporary, somehow. Why two episodes a day, but not back to back?
It's just too soon for a return of "The Dick Van Dyke Show." But the rest is not so bad.
Other shows will be ending their runs soon, & hopefully there will be good replacements for those shows.

Bizarre, but a welcome change from more Matlock.
DEH55 05-21-2024, 11:44 PM I am glad The Facts Of Life is done. Once they left the school and moved to the store the show went downhill. How much time is left for Family Ties? I hope they bring The Partridge Family back or something new.
DEH55 05-22-2024, 10:06 AM Isnt Hogan's Heroes ending soon too?
I am glad The Facts Of Life is done. Once they left the school and moved to the store the show went downhill. How much time is left for Family Ties? I hope they bring The Partridge Family back or something new.
The Facts Of Life is done and has been replaced by The Odd Couple as of today. There are a few other shows that are also close to the end that have about one season or less still to go. This is where the retro shows are at as of today:
10:00 AM Matlock - Almost over, thankfully. It will be replaced by "The Dick Van Dyke Show" at 10:00 am and the first of 2 "Lucy Show" episodes at 10:30 on May 30, which is a week from tomorrow.
11:00 Brady Bunch - Season 2
11:30 Danny Thomas Show - There are 10 episodes left in Season 10 before the final season begins. The series should end close to 2 months from now.
12:00 PM Pictionary - This show stinks! Let's move on.
1:00 The Love Boat - Season 3 will start on Monday.
2:00 Dynasty - Season 6
3:00 Lucy Show - 2nd of 2 episodes. It will replace "Hogan's Heroes" on Tuesday.
3:30 The Odd Couple - Began today!
4:00 Family Ties - Season 7 (Final Season) - It will end in about a month from now.
4:30 Three's Company - Season 8 (Final Season) - 14 episodes left. 3 weeks to go before it ends.
5:00 Cheers - Season 8 of 11
5:30 Newsradio - Season 3 of 5
So that's how things stand for now. I'll have more updates in a few weeks when some of these shows will end.
franciis 05-22-2024, 09:33 PM have never seen the last three seasons of longrunning tv series (the donna
reed show) and would LOVE to see...the black and white (early seasons of song
running series ( my three sons) with all of the super great original cast)

I think I have some idea. Friday, June 7 will mark CHCH's official 70th anniversary. The station went on the air on June 7, 1954 as a CBC affiliate before becoming an independent station in 1961, which it has remained ever since, except for a brief time in the 1990s when it was part of Global. I fully expect this to be a one-time only schedule. The real mystery is why they picked those particular episodes. I would have expected something more creative rather than all of these shows just thrown together like that. It just seems disappointing to me.

Ah, okay, so it would have something to do with CHCH's anniversary.
Looking at the episodes chosen and having this important bit of information, maybe there is a common thread in the shows chosen. They seem to all involve working in TV or film, being in a TV studio, making movies or producing a show.
Good for a one time event, I suppose, and back to the regular schedule on Monday - hopefully.
While we wait for summer to begin, CHCH unveiled their fall preview video yesterday which, in typical fashion, showed you a lot, but unveiled very little. No schedule has been announced yet (don't hold your breath) but here's what I learned from the very brief retro highlights that it displayed:
Returning to CHCH this summer and fall: The Love Boat, The Lucy Show, Hogan's Heroes, The Odd Couple, NewsRadio, and I Dream Of Jeannie.
New addition: The Avengers, the classic original British spy series from the 1960s, starring Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg.
What it didn't show: Pictionary, that awful game show with Jerry O' Connell as the host. If you pray hard enough, you may find a couple of good retro series in its spot.
CHCH Fall 2024 Video (https://www.indienet.tv/stations/chch)
One last programming note: Starting this weekend, "Dynasty" will be the only retro series that will have extra airings, appearing at 1:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays along with its regular weekday time of 2:00 pm. While this seems awful at first, the good news is that it should now end sooner and will then mercifully be replaced by something better.

All those "retro" shows they featured (except for "The Avengers") are currently on CHCH or have recently ended, so does it even mean anything for fall, and should it? I really hope they add new or at least different shows to the line up. I remember last year when CHCH claimed that "Newsradio" & "The Lucy Show" would air in the fall and then they didn't start airing until the following year.
But no more "Pictionary" would be great, as long as it's not replaced by another game show.

So that's how things stand for now. I'll have more updates in a few weeks when some of these shows will end.
It appears now that the shows I mentioned that will end soon are about to end sooner than I thought. What I mean is that "The Lucy Show" will not be the only series that will get the double play treatment in the next couple of weeks. This is because "Three's Company" will be ending next Tuesday June 11 with a special 1-hour finale. The next day, (June 12), "Family Ties" will be airing back-to-back episodes at 4 and 4:30 pm and will continue doing so until their own series finale happens on Tuesday June 18 at 4:00. This will be followed by "Cheers", which has their own double play going on at 4:30 and 5:00, but only for one day. That's because on Wed. the 19th, there will finally be something new at the 4:00 and 4:30 pm slots. It will be "The Avengers", which I had figured would not start until the fall. I guess they couldn't wait. This is something that I wasn't expecting at all. Look for more surprises to happen as the fall gets closer.
KatieAnn 06-05-2024, 08:43 PM Never would have guessed "The Avengers" would replace "Family Ties" and "Three's Company." I had many shows in mind, but not that one.
Wonder how many seasons they'll air, since it seems CHCH is starting with season 2,episode 1, skipping season 1 completely.
UPDATE: Bad news for fans of "NewsRadio" and the daytime retro block. Starting on holiday Monday, July 1st, "NewsRadio" will leave the schedule and will be replaced by another edition of "Trending Now", CHCH's local entertainment and Hollywood gossip show, hosted by the lovely Nicole Martin, at 5:30 pm as well as its normal time slot at 7:00 pm. That makes 2 shows within 90 minutes, interrupted at 6 by the news. This does not bode well for any future changes. The next series that is scheduled to leave and get replaced is "The Danny Thomas Show", now in the midst of its final season. That will happen right away after about a week. The final episode will be on Tuesday, July 16. The next day, "The Brady Bunch" will begin Season 4 and becomes the latest lucky series to get the double play treatment. It will have 2 episodes running back to back at 11 and 11:30 am until it ends sometime in August. That should be around the time that the new fall schedule could be announced. I would look for "I Dream Of Jeannie" to take over one of those time slots once the Bradys leave but I wouldn't rule out another surprise entry to show up instead.
One thing that is surprising for me in a pleasant way is that CHCH is beginning to open up the weekends in small segments to allow for more retro series to show up. I have already told you about "Dynasty" appearing there at 1:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. This month, it will be joined by "Cheers". It will be on Saturdays at 12 noon and Sundays at 12 and 12:30 pm. For some peculiar reason, the 12:30 spot on Saturdays is being left open for paid programming. That likely means that "Cheers" won't be back in the fall or they would have let it end much later.
Rollin Hands 07-05-2024, 03:21 AM Hello everyone, I’m new here, I would like to say that I’m pretty sure that Newsradio fans are unhappy that cut from CHCH and replacing Trending now, it make no sense stopping the series in middle of season 4 Newsradio. It a concern if CHCH might goes to a major changes in the fall schedule. Hopefully retro classic return continues in the fall.
JetJam 07-13-2024, 01:12 AM It just makes no sense that they would stop playing Newsradio. They promoted it and everything. You would figure the people at CHCH were fans of the show.
There must be some reason, but we’re probably not going to find out.
Guess it’s very unlikely they will bring it back in the future!
Rollin Hands 07-14-2024, 05:20 AM They might come back, however a few years ago CHCH did the same thing with The Love Boat. It stopped in the middle of season 5 and was replaced with Hawaii Five 0. The Love Boat has 8 or 9 seasons total. The Love Boat was brought back this year. So who knows maybe they will bring back NewsRadio sooner or later. But the question is can CHCH finish the series with The Love Boat by doing all 8 or 9 seasons? Time will tell.
I would love to see something different this fall like Dallas, TJ Hooker, Police Woman, Streets of San Francisco, Kojak, Rich Man Poor Man and many more. As for Comedy shows, All in the Family, Welcome Back Kotter, Mary Tyler Moore, Growing Pains, Full House, Step by Step, Newhart and many more. I would love to see the return of Matlock, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, and I Dream of Jeannie. Many more for sure.
KatieAnn 07-22-2024, 10:02 AM Just saw the Fall Media Kit for CHCH and the retro shows are typical, nothing new, Matlock is back and most of the same shows that CHCH always airs (Hogan's Heroes, I Dream of Jeannie, Laverne and Shirley, The Facts of Life - nothing new and 1 hour tbd) but the good news is that Pictionary is out, replaced by The Avengers.
I'm sure someone will post a thread about it soon, but in the meantime here's a link to the kit.

Wouldn't have even posted except I was so excited to see Pictionary gone.
:goodnews:
Looking forward to your in depth comments about the fall schedule.
With the fall season approaching, CHCH will make a final series of changes before the summer ends. This is because "The Brady Bunch" will be ending on August 16, one week from Friday. Next Monday the 19th, here's how the lineup will be affected:
-"The Love Boat" will replace the Bradys at 11:00 am and also have a 2nd episode at its regular time of 1:00 pm.
-"Cheers" will exit the weekend schedule leaving "Dynasty" as the only remaining retro series to be found there. It also will have a 2nd episode during the weekdays. That will be at 3 pm, replacing "The Lucy Show"'. It too will remain at 5 pm until the series ends. That should be when the new fall daytime retro series arrive.
KatieAnn 08-08-2024, 08:14 PM Looks like starting Monday August 12th CHCH will be dropping The Odd Couple and start airing Cheers in it's place at 3:30pm and air Nightline in the 5pm slot and starting Thursday August 15th it will be back to back episodes of Cheers airing from 3-4pm. Seems like they're burning off the the final episodes of The Love Boat & Cheers while shows like The Lucy Show & Dynasty are near their end, so they can start the fall schedule in September. I'm guessing The Odd Couple will return at that time.
But the 5-6pm hour is a question mark. Looks like CHCH would rather air shows like Nightline and Trending Now in that hour, but hopefully that's not going to happen in September & they'll air some retro shows from 5-6pm.
Dianne3 08-10-2024, 02:26 PM If it weren't for these retro shows, I, and I know most of you would not need to tune in to CHCH. Unless it's your local TV station, there is no reason to tune in.
As much as we enjoy these shows, CHCH needs them as much to bring in viewers.
I sometimes avoid the National news, depending on what they are talking about. When it's too much politics, I tune out. We don't need to see what we already don't want to see on the National news, on Nightline of Trending Now.
It seems like not long ago the Brady Bunch started, now it's almost gone. I don't like 2 episodes, unless it's a long running series.
As for the Lucy Show, you blink and it's almost over. It wasn't that long ago that it was added to the schedule.

It's a disappointing fall schedule after a disappointing summer schedule, many of the shows that aired last fall are airing again. Don't know why they don't bring back some of the retro shows that they haven't aired in a while but since most people these days have other options to view shows CHCH isn't really doing itself any favours with this schedule. :(
