View Full Version : NHL's 2 expansion cities have apparently leaked Dead2009 03-05-2024, 07:31 PM So apparently the 2 expansion cities for the NHL have leaked. Salt Lake City and Atlanta. https://x.com/TheFourthPeriod/status/1763682127051108517?s=20 opus 03-05-2024, 08:51 PM Is Atlanta going to risk the hat trick of failure? TJ 03-05-2024, 08:56 PM The third time could be the charm for Atlanta. We need a new arena in Cobb County. We also need a new ownership group besides the ones who own the Hawks. They never wanted to own a hockey team. I would pick Houston over Salt Lake City. Quebec is probably never going to get another team. opus 03-05-2024, 11:00 PM The third time could be the charm for Atlanta. We need a new arena in Cobb County. Dianne3 03-07-2024, 04:20 PM Last thing the NHL needs is MORE teams. There are already too many teams. But of course expansion $$ talks, regardless of the overall product. Is the NHL actually planning to have more teams than the NFL? MrCleveland 03-10-2024, 09:37 PM I just wish that Cleveland and Kansas City would have professional hockey again. Columbus should have an Ohio rival...why not let it be Cleveland? I won't doubt The NHL will have 40 teams soon...not only will Salt Lake City, Atlanta, Cleveland, and Kansas City would be nominees...but Saskatchewan, Houston, Quebec, and Milwaukee would be in the talks. TJ 03-10-2024, 10:05 PM The all-time highlight of Atlanta hockey Jim Craig had only a cup of coffee in four games for the Flames. This was my best memory of Atlanta Thrashers hockey. It's from their first and only playoffs appearance. Hockey can work in Atlanta with a winning team and good ownership group. Dude111 03-10-2024, 10:15 PM Hockey is my favourite sport buddy!! robyrob 03-17-2024, 08:04 AM Of the two potential Atlanta ownership groups, they both want to build an arena 50 miles out of town- I don’t know Atlanta but that seems like a bad idea - look at the Coyotes and their mess. Quebec City already has a state of the art arena that they fill every night, all they need is an ownership group that can put up 2B for expansion fee and Bettman to give them a chance Dead2009 03-19-2024, 06:41 AM I just wish that Cleveland and Kansas City would have professional hockey again. The present owner will have 5 years to secure a site, funding for a new arena and will then be awarded a franchise (he will have to pay an entry fee). I feel sorry for the Utah taxpayers funding another sports arena for a billionaire but that's their problem. The Arizona arena will be privately funded. robyrob 04-21-2024, 01:38 PM The Coyotes situation is a complete mess - like it always has been- things can’t go worse for the “Utah Hockey Club” - the team’s official current name. I don’t think Muerulo can get his crap together to build a new area and bring back the Coyotes in 5 years, he’s only allowed to sell off something like 30% of the ownership to investors and he really doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing I think Houston will get a team and Atlanta will probably get another shot, hopefully both at once, but any more after that is probably slim chances Babalu 04-21-2024, 07:29 PM Last thing the NHL needs is MORE teams. There are already too many teams. But of course expansion $$ talks, regardless of the overall product. Is the NHL actually planning to have more teams than the NFL? Obviously, I didn't see this thread when it was first started, or if I did, I changed my name to this and made this post. This is exactly what I would have said. There should be no more than 16 teams. I don't give a **** if the south or west has hockey. We don't need to "grow the game". I don't care if "non traditional fans" watch (I'm sure you know what that means) or women watch. We don't need tattooed thugs doin' they goal dances. Babalu 04-21-2024, 07:32 PM Baltimore should get a hockey team before Kansas City does. Baltimore is a complete ****hole. The last thing they need is a hockey team. TJ 04-21-2024, 09:52 PM Arizona moving increases Atlanta's chances of getting an expansion franchise. It's sad to see the Coyotes leave Arizona. They just couldn't get a new arena built. They have had some terrible ownership groups like Atlanta. That's a pretty good return on his investment for Alex Meruelo. I remember he tried to buy the Atlanta Hawks. Hockey might be back in Arizona if they can ever get a new arena with the right ownership group. With the growth of hockey in other countries, there's room for a few more teams. It's truly a global game. opus 04-24-2024, 04:58 PM 'Blizzard' is betting favorite for Utah NHL team's new name (https://www.fox13now.com/sports/nhl-in-slc/blizzard-is-betting-favorite-for-utah-nhl-teams-new-name) >>>As of Monday, the following seven names had been trademarked and appear to be the early frontrunners: Utah HC Utah Hockey Club Utah Blizzard Utah Fury Utah Outlaws Utah Venom Utah Yetis<<< I'm not really feeling the first two. Too soccer-ish. opus 06-13-2024, 11:19 PM My last post didn’t like it so of course that’s what it’s going to start out as Utah Hockey Club will be the name of the NHL team in Salt Lake City for its inaugural season (https://sports.yahoo.com/utah-hockey-club-name-nhl-233738037.html) TJ 06-16-2024, 08:25 PM Utah Venom would make the most sense because Utah is the Beehive state. Since I have an interest in Bigfoot and cryptozoology, my pick would be the Utah Yeti. opus 01-31-2025, 11:22 PM Utah hockey choices down to the final three >>The team announced Thursday that Outlaws will now be a choice, along with Mammoth and Hockey Club.<<< https://www.nhl.com/news/utah-hockey-club-to-have-fans-vote-on-permanent-nickname-final-three-choices Mammoth would be good advertising for Wolfgang Van Halen’s band. TJ 02-12-2025, 08:27 PM I'm not a fan of any of them. Yeti would have been best. I'm surprised Venom didn't make the final cut. Hockey Club would be a bad choice. This isn't soccer. opus 05-07-2025, 01:41 PM 1920116409989796112 Dude111 05-07-2025, 07:58 PM Do you like Soccer better buddy??
