After struggling in the '80s coming off the Pittsburgh drug trials (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyN8KtcMo4E), the Pittsburgh Pirates rebounded to start the '90s, winning the NL East three years in a row. Led by Jim Leyland, they featured Barry Bonds, Bobby Bonilla, Andy Van Slyke, Jose Lind, Doug Drabek and more. But in their 3 NLCS appearances, they lost each one. Losing in 1990 to the Reds then losing in 1991 and 1992 to the Braves, including the famous Game 7 of the 1992 NLCS where Francisco Cabrera drove in Sid Bream to win the game (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1i-RFNYWEk). And after that play, the Pirates proceeded to have a losing season for the next 20 years, a record in North American sports. Despite moving to the beautiful PNC Park, cheap owners, bad front office moves, and terrible play led to a historic stretch for the wrong reasons not ending until 2013.

Surprise! There are other owners, not named John Fisher of the Oakland Athletics, that are hated by fans almost as much. Today we checkout an awesome article from the Athletic breaking down Jerry Reinsdorf and his strangle hold on Chicago White Sox; the now record holder for most losses in a season. Then, for a little extra flavor, we touched on Arte Moreno of the LA Angels and Bob Nutting of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Just for fun. Let's discuss.

It was another losing season for the Pittsburgh Pirates. With continued frustration from fans, a city council member wants to sit down with leadership to see what is going on. They want the city of champions to have champions.

It's another October and playoff baseball is in full swing. But PNC Park sits empty. Councilwoman Theresa Kail Smith wants that to change.

"I think there's a lot of discussion. The Pirates' agreement with the stadium authority is up in a few years and it'd be a great time to have a conversation," Kail Smith said.

Despite calls from fans to sell the team, Kail Smith said she's not pounding the table for an ownership change.

"There's a group of people that want to have this meeting that have that theory. That's not me. What I can tell you is I'm grateful for what the Pirates have done for the city of Pittsburgh," Kail Smith said.
