I have already have the 1st and 2nd season Of The Abbott and Costello Show and now they come out with a new box set for just a little over what one season cost plus some extras. I am wondering if I should get it or just say to heck with those greedy people.

It is hard to know when to buy and when to wait

It won't be an issue for me since I don't currently own any A & C DVDs.

Me neither. I actually haven't seen many episodes but I might get me the DVDs someday because I love their movies.

BTW I hate it when the studios make you double dip. They should release the extras seperately so the people who already bought the DVDS can get them.

In this case, I think it would be worth double dipping. This new release is much more than just a re-release. They've made some definite improvements by improving the video quality when possible and adding chapter stops, adding several bonus features and including a 44-page commemorative book and 4 postcards. You could always try to sell the old sets to upgrade to the new one.

Nah. Not for me.

My wife gave me both seasons for Christmas a few years back, and I'm happy with them. Maybe I'll pick this new release up in a few years, if I can get it real cheap on eBay or something.

TJ is absolutely right, the first two seasons sets are currently out of print and this new release from E1 is FAR SUPERIOR, I agree with the review that to me the only weakness is the rather delicate cardboard box, but it is creative, but I'm the type that doesn't even take the shrinkwrap off my DVD sets, I slice them open on the side as to keep original advertising stickers, etc. I was actually able to do this with the new A&C set as well, by cutting the bottom and slowly sliding the shrinkwrap off from the top when desired, but eventually it will tear....but back to the topic, I have the first sets but you do get the rare 1979 "Hey Abbott" special as well as many other bonuses....this is the definative boxset of the series. The 44 page booklet alone is the most comprehensive ever written on the series and cast.

Its funny that this keeps happening with all things A&C, we bought 4 volumes of the movies, then the beautiful Universal boxset came out with the long waited "It Ain't Hay" but that was not originally released due to rights issues with the runyan estate.

I am double dipping--deepdiscount.com had the Abbott and Costello set for 26.98. They also had season sets of Starsky and Hutch for 7.98 (WOW) and Gomer Pyle complete series for 67.98, Charlie's Angels for 10.98

they did that with "MASH" because so many people complained.

Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. for $68? Might look in to that. As long as every episode is unedited and complete, then I will be a happy camper! I'm usually an Amazon customer and the prices are reasonable depending on the item you're searching for.

I heard Gomer singing with Carol Burnett aka Sgt Barnes. It was great as I thought some of the singing might be cut. I watched the hippies paint the mobil command post and sing a song with Gomer :) It was funny that after watching the Carol Burnett episode I want to see The Carol Burnett Show
