on TV Tales Bea Arthur says she doesn't want to play maude again. But to me i see very few similarities between the two. Other then the sarcasm. but Maude was so much more liberal and political. Not Dorthy.

Thank Heavens for that! Maude was just awful in my opinion. Dorothy was way much cooler. :)

I liked Maude..it was one of my favorite shows when I was 7. I guess that explains alot.

I personally felt that Bea was better on Maude than on GG. Bea was made for Maude, and was perfect at doing that. In GG, she was fun to watch, but nothing as excellent on Maude. I always felt that GG was an ensemble comedy, while Maude was her show.

Yes, Maude was overbearing to the point where people couldn't get a word in edge-wise, and she was much more political, much more manic, and much more histrionic.

But, we also have to keep in mind, this is when the pilot script of The Golden Girls was the only one that yet existed. And in that script, Dorothy clearly is the dominant character of that episode, even though the episode is about Blanche. She's quite domineering (she throws Rose into a closet and locks her in for Pete's sake, lol), so if she did read the pilot script (we don't know if she made the comment before reading it all or not), it's understandable to see where her comment "I don't want to do Maude and Vivian meet Sue Ann Nivens...boooorrrrring!" came from.
