chico and the man was one of my mother's favorite shows. we were discussing it one day and sort of arguing about whether freddie prinze was really mexican or if he was puerto rican. so if anyone knows and can answer it, i would really appreciate it. thanx

Melissa,

It's true that Freddie was puerto rican, but he was also Hungarian. His parents were Karl and Maria Preutzel (if I am spelling it correctly).

Apparently Freddie's dad was born in Germany but of Hungarian ancestry. Pruetzel is very much Deutsch but it could have been a name change, a change of something Hungarian that was similar, or some weird geographic overlapping.
