This is something that totally puzzles me. Over the last 5 years, it seems like channels have gotten into the habit of airing two episodes of the same show in an hour. What's with this? Nick joined the band when they started those horrible Double Takes. If you ask me, it totally ruins the schedule and doesn't give you a lot of variety.

Can anyone tell me why this programming strategy is being used by local channels and some cable channels?

I agree. I hate the double takes on any station. Constant airings, especially on local channels. I mean, on TBS, at least they break up the blocks, but it's still annoying, LOL. I'm not one to post dream schedules (anymore), but here is an example of what NaN could do with their lineup, and bring back the 8:30pm slot...

8:30pm - Charles in Charge
9:00pm - Family Ties
9:30pm - The Cosby Show
10:00pm - Coach
10:30pm - Cheers
11:00pm - Three's Company
11:30pm - All in the Family

Or just something like that IF they must stick with some of those shows, LOL.

I think they should just stick what they did a few years ago, airing one show at a time. Nick-at-Nite doesn't have to trouble with "Double Takes" and double the episodes when we can see other shows that yet have to air at earlier time-slot, lol.

Your post got me to thinking back to a Twilight Zone marathon they had the 4th of July this year. Everybody kind of ranks the hour long tz episodes as the least favorite of the series right? Well, when SciFi had its regular tz marathon- they showed every hour episode in one large chunk. Usually they kind of mix them up a bit. You have a hour episode and then a few 30 minute episodes and then another hour episode. They usually mix them around like that. This year for the 4th of July marathon, they did the hour long chunk. Which made me think of a theory.

If we have double take, it's easier to line up a line up. Well, we have Family Ties on at 12:00. What could we possibly show at 12:30? *people responsible for lineup thinks for hours on end* *one of them snaps their fingers* "Oh, my stars! We eliminate thinking time on our part if we do a double take. What would be easier? Trying to find a show to fit the 12:30 time slot or do we just load another episode of Family Ties onto the schedule?"

Just my theory....but I do think the people responsible for the lineup takes the easier way out instead of trying to find a better schedule.
