View Full Version : WKRP Weekly Episode Discussion
dlemond 09-20-2002, 10:47 AM TO get this board rolling, I suggest we pick an episode from WKRP once a week and use it as a topic of discussion.
Obviously we do not have the luxury of reruns right now.
So, those of us who have episodes on tape can watch the episode over the weekend (or whenever) and then we can talk about what we liked, disliked, the writing, the acting - etc.
Those who don't have the episode can post thoughts, ask questions, and just get interested in WKRP again.
I don't care how we pick the episode or the day we start the discussion, I just want to know what you think of the idea.
SO?
RamOntheRun 09-20-2002, 04:45 PM Sure...I'm game, sounds like a good idea. Out of the 90 episodes I have nearly all of 'em...missing 4 or 5. You want to start with "Real Families"?- that particular show was pretty brilliant- excellent writing, and Lucille Tarlek (actress name escapes me at the moment) almost steals the show...."uh huh...bye bye now...we're off to pray...."
dlemond 09-20-2002, 05:25 PM Real Families is fine with me.
I don't know when people want to start to post on it .
Should we make this a weekend thing- comments starting Sunday night going til Friday?
Of course anyone can talk about any other episodes and things on the board, I just meant for our discussion subject.
In the future we can pick episodes at random - and Ram if you are only missing a few we can go around them. I'm missing one.
SO anyone else out there - Real Families - I'll post the topic on Sunday night.
OK?
dlemond 09-20-2002, 05:33 PM I was just thinking, maybe we should just pick the episode on Fridays and people can start posting whenever they want.
Just lead off the post subject with Weekly Episode - (the title)
karma 09-20-2002, 08:07 PM Sounds good to me.
So are we starting with Real Families for this coming week then?
dlemond 09-20-2002, 08:24 PM OK.
Let's start with Real Families.
Anyone can start, just make the post subject like I said above.
We can figure out a way to randomly pick other episodes this week.
karma 09-21-2002, 04:09 PM I was just thinking of a way to pick the new weekly episode...
How about going by the episode that the Comedy network airs on Fridays, for any Canadians or satellite peeps? (i.e. yesterday's episode was 'Daydreams.') The ones who don't have the CN but who have the episodes taped can maybe watch it if they want. I was just thinking that this way it would be perhaps fresher in our minds?
Whatever, if you guys think this idea sucks, feel free to let me know!
dlemond 09-21-2002, 05:45 PM That's fine with me.
But are we starting with Daydreams or Real Families?
jaime_weinman 09-21-2002, 10:53 PM I thought I just started a Real Families discussion (see below).
Besides, the Comedy Network's tape of "Daydreams" is hacked to pieces. Not much to discuss. :(
karma 09-22-2002, 07:49 PM Yeah, I was just thinking of a way of picking future episodes. Real Families is awesome!
And yeah, the cut version of Daydreams is pretty bad.. they left out Bailey's daydream completely.
dlemond 09-27-2002, 09:08 PM I want to pick a new episode.
I asked for someone on another board to pick a number
between 1 - 90 and the first person picked 22.
That is "Preacher."
Is this ok with you guys?
If not I can go to a random number generator and start over.
APPLEI 09-27-2002, 11:45 PM "the preacher" sounds good too me
dlemond 10-04-2002, 04:16 PM First:
Sorry I have posted so late on the weekly discussion episode.
And please, you other people, chime in.
Second:
I again asked on another board for a number between 1 and 90 and someone replied 59.
That is "Dr. Fever and Mr. Tide"
Though it is part 1, the 2-parters are one for the weekly discussion- if they picked 60 it would have been the same.
No point in discussing half of it and thats it.
And besides- this did orginally air as a 1-hour episode.
dlemond 10-11-2002, 07:52 PM Ok, I asked for a random number again and I kept getting the third season.
I devised a new way to keep mixing up the seasons to a decent degree and I got :
Most Improved Station
dlemond 10-18-2002, 10:10 PM Ah, another week.
I am actually taking this pick from a random number generator, excluding the first couple of seaons.
It came out "An Explosive Affair"
Come on, I want to see a lot more people talking about WKRP, I mean where is the love?
This is a great episode so give us something guys.
dlemond 10-25-2002, 12:46 PM Ok, I am the worst offender.
I haven't commented on Explosive yet and it's Friday.
I want people to comment on episodes from weeks before too- it's not dead because the week is over.
I will pick a new episode tonight, but I plan on posting on Explosive this weekend too after I watch it again.
dlemond 10-28-2002, 04:45 PM OK OK
I suck.
Sorry, been real busy, family stuff and such.
I did do another random number search and came up with "Changes." I hope people have this on tape or at least some of the posters can talk about its content.
Hope everyone is doing well.
karma 11-02-2002, 06:37 PM It's amazing how fast the weeks go.
I'm in the middle of paper hell (a 5 page one due Monday and I'm on page 1)... anyway it popped into my head that we maybe could discuss the pilot episode. If that's ok with everyone. I'm interested to hear what you guys have to say about it and I'm wondering if anyone here actually watched it the very first time it aired on CBS? That's kindof a stretch, I know, but one never knows.
In any case I hope that's alright with everyone.
dlemond 11-02-2002, 07:40 PM Not too much of a stretch for an old fart like me.
I watched it the first time it aired on CBS and I remember it distinctly, because Andy put up a KISS poster in his office and I was a huge KISS fan as a kid.
I think I they actually showed that in the commercials for the premiere, but I can't be sure.
But I was into it from the start, I loved radio as a kid and I wanted to be a DJ.
If you want to discuss the pilot that is fine with me.
If you start the discussion just lead with Weekly Discussion - Pilot pt 1.
Part 2 is really a totally separate episode.

i agree that pilot part one and pilot part two should be discussed on seperate weeks because they are two different episodes not two parts of one episode.
pilot part one was shot in april 1978 and pilot part two was shot in july or august.

Jaimie, do you have an opinion on why that is? Assuming that the ep is available uncut, why do you figure they might cut it up? I noticed Hoodlum Rock and a date w/ jennifer also run about 22 minutes w/o commercials from there. I cant imagine any controversial goings on in those eps. Maybe they needed to hack out some dialog that was centered around music? Maybe they're doing it on purpose just to be, you know - "that way"
<GGGGG>
karma 11-03-2002, 11:20 PM Wow, I bow before anyone who saw the pilot episode originally. I've only talked to two people who ever remember watching the show when it was originally aired... mind you I'm only 21 so I guess that's not too bad.
One of my friends is a local singer, and she does a reworked cover of the (opening) theme song sometimes when she sings... other than that none of my friends are really familiar with the show.
</pointless>
dlemond 11-22-2002, 01:54 PM OK FOLKS.
I've been away for a while, my tapes all packed up as I moved, but I figured that this would be a good time to get the board going again.
And with Thanksgiving coming up, what better way to start than with the most recognizable of all WKRP episodes: "Turkeys Away."
Anyone who wants to start the thread just lead with: Weekly Episode - Turkeys Away. Or something to that effect.
dlemond 02-25-2003, 05:08 PM OK, whoever is out there, break out your tapes and let's get back to the episode discussions.
While commenting on another thread I noted Venus Rising, and I think we could start there.
SO, whoever wants to begin, post a new thread.

In the words of Herb Tarlek "OK fine".
APPLEI 04-03-2003, 01:50 AM how about A DATE WITH JENNIFER for this weeks episode discussion while its still fresh on are minds.
i know that jennifers name is in the title, but this is a les nessman episode and besides richard sanders and michael fairman co-wrote this episode.
then next week we can discuss an bailey quarters episode.

I'm all for that.
It seems like most of the time it's just you and I Applei.
If WKRP got picked by TV Land this board would jump into action like the Sanford and Son one did.
If Comedy Network in Canada can afford to broadcast it, TV Land should have no problem.
It's got to happen sometime right?

i would like for more people in canada to participate more with this board.
i think wkrp runs 3 times a day in canada on the comedy network so it must be getting good ratings.
tvland should be aware of this.
