No one knew how successful "The Brady Bunch'' would become, least of all Robert Reed.

I dont think anyone expected it to last. Eve quotes the review of the pilot all the time that said "the kids march upstairs to their parents honeymoon and we hope they never come down to be seen again"
The first season is really corny. It was the old school perfect "Fathers Know Best" kind of show in 1969. Totally ignoring the culture and race changes in America at the time. Season 2 just got so much better and season 3 was even better.
Robert Reed was doing Manix so he already was on a hit TV show so he did not need the Brady Bunch.

"Corny" is the perfect description of season 1. Silly stuff like Carol going bonkers when Cindy has a "sniffle." A play with room for only one parent (weird situation that would never happen). The two pediatricians who were called when all the kids had measles, and I think even then doctors knew there was no cure for a virus.
Robert Reed should have refused to appear in some of those episodes.
